View Full Version : Well We KNOW VY wants to be here

Just saw on the news that the city counsel made this VY day. VY said he loved everyone and if the Texans are looking "come and get me." He said he hopes the organization may lean his way. I'm not a UT homer and don't think he is God or anything. It is just refreshing to see the guy be excited about the prospects and actually want to be here.

Bush said the same thing when asked whether or not he'd play for the Texans. He said he'd enjoy playing with "Great football talents like Andre Johnson and David Carr" Its all politics, except for Eli Manning, most NFL prospects have it because they know it brings the $$$$

No, but considering that some of the debate this week was "Does Bush want to play here" and people were dissecting if what he said on Leno meant he wanted to be here or not, I thought it was a good sign. Just take it for what it is. People are a little too on edge these days.

Not on edge, just praying the Texans don't fall for this media crap of wanting Vince Young here instead of New Orleans. Heck, he can go to Tennessee as far as I am concerned. Hope he likes Country and Western music...

I, for one, am getting sick of all the media hype. It's like the 2 weeks between the Super Bowl. HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, then DUD.

Nothing like VY loyalists and UT fans trying to hold the Texans hostage. "DO AS WE SAY OR ELSE!" :loser

Well this goes both ways. You have angry people who are tired of hearing it assuming that he will be a bust and taking it out on him. Just because the fans are over the top doesn't make him a bad kid and the fact is...he might be a stud. He has stepped it up everywhere he has been and can lead. But so might Bush and others. I just think people need to step back and realize it isn't the players that are changing, it is the fan base for each.

"What do you expect him to say?

That he doesn't want to play here?"

he WANTS to be here, hes been practically screaming it the entire year, like when he said he would have no choice but to come out if the Texans were taking him (this was back before they had the #1 pick locked up and before the rose bowl obviously), then immediately after the rose bowl he said "H-town love yall baby!" when it was pointed out to him that the Texans have the #1 pick, and then obviously on the Leno show.

tulexan man, there seems to be some underlying issue with you, do you have something personally against vince young or the university of texas?

I have nothing against Vince or UT.

What I do have a problem with is people thinking that QB is our biggest need and that we should spend a #1 pick on a QB because he is from Houston.

I also have a problem with most of the people who want Vince having no argument except "Vince is amazing and he is a hometown hero". And claiming that they would even be able to put up with years of failure because Vince would be our QB.

I think that Vince has a chance to be a very good player in the NFL but it will take a long time for him to get to that level. He is still an extremely raw quarterback and will need 2 or 3 years minimum to be NFL ready. I don't think this franchise can afford to wait at least 2 or 3 years to get back on track to where we are right now.

I believe that if we give David Carr more than 2 seconds to throw the ball, a defense, and another weapon, we can be a playoff contender maybe not next season, but the next. I don't think that it would be unreasonable to believe that we could be .500 or a little better next year.

That is my problem.

What I have a problem with is people thinking that RB is our biggest need and that we should spend a #1 pick on an RB just because everyone in America said we should--until the Rose Bowl. I'm not meaning to imply that you said anything of the sort, Tulexan....I'm just frustrated with solid "Bush-campers" who fail to see the irony in their anti-Young rants.

I honestly don't know what the right answer is, but I'm pretty doggone sure I'll be happy with either guy. I can't wait for actual workouts so we can get past some of this! :redtowel:

For a couple of years is OK with me.
Bush wouldn't solve the immediate problems either.

Carr will step up or step out as will the rest of the team.

tulexan
01-10-2006, 09:11 PM
I understand your frustration, and I am in the Bush camp, but I see a major difference in the argument. The difference is that by adding Bush, we are not subtracting anything we are just adding another piece to the puzzle. By adding Young, we are basically starting the puzzle over. I also believe that Bush is more than just a RB. He fills a few holes that we have on our team in addition to adding quality RB depth which is what we will need when Kubiak comes here because he likes to run the ball a lot, and a cut back RB fits his system.

I also believe that Carr fits the mold of the QBs that Kubiak has had success with (Strong armed and mobile). In fact Carr is very similar to Jake Plummer who Kubiak has turned from a turnover prone, unsuccessful QB, into one of the better QBs in the league.

Well, I don't want either...I'm in the shrinking "trade down to #4 or more and pick up D'Brickashaw, a TE, a FS, an OG, a CBand a DL/LB (depending on our defense next year) camp."

Many have a problem with some who think we will not improve if we go a certain way. If we take Bush we will improve, if we trade down we will improve, and if we take VY we will yes...improve...deal with it! In fact, we would improve if we did not draft one person this year. We have way too much talent to be 2-14 and I would hope people realize that, but I'm starting to have doubts.

If you think people want VY only because he is a hometown hero then I'm convinced last Wed. was the 1st game you saw him play from start to finish. Also, if San Fran had the 1st pick and they were debating passing on Bush to take VY would those locally complaining rub you the wrong also? I'm guessing not.

Supposivley it was going to take years for VY to read defenses, develop pocket presence, and throw. It took one and the guy was not even sacked last year. I think Bush would be a great asset too, but I'm not going to be shallow and debate whether he can help the Texans or not...of course he can. Can he run with our O-line? I have no idea...I know he needs room to make moves and he is not going to immediately have it here. D.Davis got a lot of yards on second effort after he got hit. Can Bush to this? The verdict is still out.

My point is saying one option will not improve the team is simply wrong. To say that by bringing Bush in we will be in the playoffs in 2 years is no different than saying bringing VY in will win us a ton of rings. Personally, I could care less about the playoffs. I want rings and will be happy with whoever gets us there...

Actually Chris Simms made Tulane his ***** the first time they played and Chance Mock and Cedric Benson did the second time they played.

But I really don't care that Texas beat Tulane because Tulane had no shot of winning either game. The budget for the football team alone at Texas is probably a few times more than the entire athletic department at Tulane.

I'm proud of Tulane's team this year for what they went through regardless of their record.

The video of him saying that is up now on KHOU.com:

http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou060110_cd_youngcityhall.64f8b1f4.html

Young sent out his own message. "I love y'all and if the Houston Texans are looking, come on and get me," he said.

"I hope that the guys at the Texans who are making the decisions are leaning towards me a little bit. If not, I'm still gonna love Houston and I'm gonna love Texas. I mean, I bleed Houston," said Young.

I was driving to work and right before I pulled in I heard a little clip from good ol Vince. Someone asked him what he thought about the Texans saying that they wont draft him and he said something to the extent of I hope that they rethink their possition. He loves Houston and wants to be a Texan. And, on top of that, he said no matter where he ends up playing he'll always be a Houstonian.

The more I hear from this guy the more I like him.

I don't doubt that he wants to play for Houston, but I don't doubt he would have said the same things about playing in San Fran. last year. The Media Hype was centered around the team the last three years and was well deserved. That team has lost two games in that time by less than a TD. The Majority of those players from that stretch will be playing in the NFL. Lienart, White, Bush, The O-line, Bird, both WR's will eventually be drafted. Did I leave any offensive guys out? Out of this list THEY voted him their best player the last two years. He is not weak, can catch, does block and has speed. The Media is a lot closer to his reality , than the majority of his opposition on this board.

The media is also wrong quite a bit. So the guy was popular with his team. Does that mean that LenDale White wasn't the real reason for the success Bush had? I'm not sure....he sure did wear down a lot of defenses though.

Yea, a lot of the USC guys will be playing on Sundays. Dallas bought into the USC hype too and took their top left Tackle off that "Not really the National Championship team" (LSU has the crystal football, not USC ;)) two years ago.....

Some how, through media hype, it was forgotten that LSU were the REAL national champs. Texas quarterback Vince Young was honored by Houston City Council with a "Vince Young Day" tribute on Tuesday for his efforts in helping the Longhorns win last week's Rose Bowl and BCS national championship. After thanking those assembled for the award, Young left little doubt regarding his interest in playing for his hometown in the NFL.

"If the Houston Texans are looking," Young said, "come on and get me."

I'd much rather have VY drafted by the Texans. I know I'm a little biased, but I was watching an interview with Reggie Bush and Lendale White on "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" earlier in the season, and Reggie Bush rolled his eyes when asked if he "had already bought a house in Houston" and then was later asked "Well how bout NY?", and he quickly changed his demeanor and smiled and said "Yeah, NY." (Jets) I know this was a while ago, but I don't think Bush would be happy in Houston playing for a traditionally struggling team. Who knows, all I remember is Eli Manning blowin off San Diego and bolting to the Giants. Just a thought...........

I also have a problem with most of the people who want Vince having no argument except "Vince is amazing and he is a hometown hero". And claiming that they would even be able to put up with years of failure because Vince would be our QB.

That is my problem.

Just to help you understand my thinking... and others like me... I don't think QB is our biggest need. I think it is a big need that needs to be answered this year, or next. With Vince Coming out this year, & with us having the number 1 overall, and Vince is the BPA..... to me, this is kinda like that wet paper bag & machette thing....

My argument for taking Vince, is the same as it would be for any other player I feel should go #1. He's a great player, Best player available, and could help our team.

Why is it again, that we don't have time to wait for Vince to fully understand the NFL?? Is it because the great team we've built so far will be falling apart at that time?? See, I think Our team has a better chance of being better 2-3 years from now, than it has of being worse.

Logic tells you that Carr should be a better quarterback, with the right stuff in front of him. But... 4 years after he has come into the league, the chances of that are really not much better than any QB coming out of the draft..... We know about as much about Carr, as we did when we drafted him. The only new information we have now, is that we know the kid can take a punch.... If this were a Boxing match, Carr vs Young, I'll put my money on the small Lanky kid from Cali. All I'm saying, is that it is very likely, that we'll find out next year, that Carr is a flop...... If he doesn't do well next year, I don't see how any one can defend him. He already has outlasted many QBs, that have been in the same situation. Harrington, Quincy, Brooks, Leaf, Warner, Garcia, etc...

You won't see any other team spend 5 years to evaluate a Quarterback.

Now, I'm not bad mouthing Carr, I think the possibility of him doing well next year, is good enough to give him a 2 year extension.... Because we do have a better chance of having a winning season with him behind Center. I think it is very likely, and worth the $5million, to have him play for us, and let us make a playoff run. But I wouldn't bet my career on it.

I'll sign Vince and make it clear, that we are going in another direction....... Away from Carr. The only way he'll start in 2007, is if he wins puts us in a Divisional Playoff game.

Edit Oh yeah, the only reason We have to do something.... start winning, is to please the fans. We don't have a HOF coach who might leave us..... or a WR with a couple of good years left in him, or a Running back on the downhill side of his Career. Draft Vince, and you can take a year or two to get something done.... Heck, If I was a new coach coming into a team like this, in a City like Houston...... I'd take that little insurance policy.

People in this city and on the message boards have frequently voiced their displeasure with the lack of success of this team, and using the #1 pick and all that money on a guy that is going to take 2-3 years before he is ready to be our QB and therefore admitting right now that our team will not be good for a couple years is not a good way to keep fans, not to mention by that point in time the contracts of Andre, Domanick, Dunta, and others will have run out, and they aren't going to want to stay here if our team is not showing significant progression. Vince Young is not going to improve this team for a couple years, and even then I don't see him being able to lead this team any better than Carr can if we actually use our draft picks and free agency intelligently to finally surround him with the type of players that David, Vince, or any other QB would need to succeed, and using the #1 pick to bring on a QB that is not going to improve the team rather than using that to either draft a big-time playmaker RB to add to the offense or trade down and acquire several good players with it and increase the overall talent of the team would not be a wise decision.

He wants to play in Houston until he starts taking snaps behind that O-line against a live defense.
