I'm Bush and Young fan, But I'm a Texan fan 1st. I've been doing alot of thinking on this matter and all it is (is a big headache). My thoughts are to trade the #1 pick with the Titans pick up a 1st rounder next year and 2nd or 3rd rounder this year, then trade with the Jets or Packers for a 1st next year and 2nd 0r third this year. We can then draft A.J. Hawk, save money + have 3 1st round picks next year and 2 maybe 3 extra picks this year. So give the Titans the #1 pick and let them blow it, give them the headache.
If this were done there is no way CC could screw it up. He could blow a pick or two and it would not even matter. Plus how cool would it be to wear a jersey with the word hawk on the back of it.:ok:

I'd love to get AJ Hawk somehow; we certainly have defensive needs too! However, I don't know if that's the right thing to do even if we do trade down.

Furthermore, I don't think the first pick of the draft would be a headache to any team outside of Texas.

I would love to trade down and pick up more picks. I just want what is best for the Texans. Even if it doesn't have anything to do with bush or VY.

No more trading with teams in our division...especially if casserly is negotiating them

WE need mor beef on the offensive line. As far as I am concerned that is what should concentrated on.

If you think this is a headache, you haven't watched Vince Young play enough. This is an easy, EASY decision to make. And it will be made. Vince Young is the best player on the board and the Texans will take him.

We've needed a real left tackle on this team since Boselli never happened and we still need one. Perhaps we should overlook it again this year.

Less you forget that we would be hurting the Titans more then helping them by giving them first pick. Why? Arent the Titans in cap trouble. To have them trade and pick up a high cap player on a cap strapped team, they will have to lose a few good players to get it to work.

When theTexans traded up to get Babin The Titans got 3 or 4 more draft picks and they finished at 4 & 12 last year.Trading down is not the cure all to make your team better ask the Titans & Fisher I can't believe people on this board want him as a HC of the Texans.

I watched Vince Young play against A&M and have seen him struggle against teams like Oklahoma State. Yeah, the decision is easy. Trade the pick.

Trading down gives you depth and an overall better team for the long-term. That cannot be disputed.

i'm not sure exactly which picks we gave up, but it looks like ben troupe, randy starks, & bo schobel. i'm pretty sure the titans would trade babin for those 3 every time.

I agree with this...Other then in Texas most of what I have been hearing and reading seem to suggest Bush should be the 1st pick...Again, I think too many folks are using one game as their gage...Prior to the national champ game I think the majority of the folks on this board thought Bush was the right choice as well...Why change after one great performance?

Before the Rose Bowl....Young wasn't considered for the 2006 draft. Since the Rose Bowl....it was only the most prudent thing to do in coming out for the draft. He couldn't rise any higher than he'd come after that performance. That's why one game has changed the outlook in this whole debacle.

But if you're Bob McNair and looking to win now - you will NOT take him so it's actually NOT an easy decision...especially for those of us who think they're both great and are not big UT fans.

Its really the influx of UT fans swamping the boards.

Most true Texans fans believe in Bush, although I'm starting to get worried why its taking him so long to declare.

Hell, if we trade with the Titans isn't there a great chance we can still get Vince or Reggie? .. with both NO and Tenn going QB or with NO liking Lineheart as has been tossed around

If he does indeed declare. He might take a page from Lienert(sp) and stay for his senior year. I'll wait and see.

It is possible that he is going to stay in School...If this happens I think we should trade the pick...A DE, LB, or D'Brick would not be a bad pick...

the draft bandwagon is always like that. reggie bush was the "best player ever" after the notre dame game and we got flooded with posts. before that, everyone was complaining that we had 4 years to fix our line and havent ... it's always changing because of man-crushes on whoever had a good day.

"most true texans fans believe in bush". thank you for speaking for the majority, i'm glad we elected someone as voice of the people. most of the polls in the draft section leaned heavily towards trading down. true texans fans want what's best for the team, and everybody's got a different idea of what that is.

Tennessee won't give up that much to move up - why should they? They are in the position of having one of three stud players (assuming Bush also declares) drop to them. They can't mess it up. They either take their qb of the future or their rb of the future (brown would be a good complement to Bush).

So, I doubt they deal . . . . . . UNLESS . . . . . . one of the QBs distances himself from the other during the next couple of months, creating enough incentive for Tenn to want to jump in front of NO.

As a side note, I have to laugh about how everyone is willing to deal down NOW. When we drafted Carr (and AJ and Dunta) I wanted to do what everyone is talking about. Trade down, turn one pick into a lot of picks over a few years. I would have been wrong to do it with the AJ and Dunta picks (any doubt that Tenn would give its pick for either, I don't think so). The Carr pick is still unknown because he hasn't had a chance.
My original suggestion was similar: Trade down several spots from #1 overall and get multiple picks including picks over the next three years; repeat until you are into the 3rd round. If you could get close to fair value (off the point chart and figuring each pick moves up a round in value per year) then you could turn one pick into five number one picks next year (thats is even allowing a top value of 580 for a second this year). Six, if you deal our 2nd rounder.
PLUS, if you deal for picks 3 or 4 years away, you really clean up. Think about Dallas; Parcells will not be around forever so they need players now (a few teams will have that attitude due to aging superstars, etc.). So, we give up our 2nd for a 3rd next year and a 1st the year after (technically more according to the point chart but 1st round picks are harder to get).
If done right, by trading our #1 this year, we could have 3-5 picks in each round of the 2007-2010 drafts (lots of scenarios with where the picks fall but this makes my point). Two side effects of doing this; i. we keep sucking for 2 years so our picks would stay high, ii. we can fix our cap problems (and would want to deal our older high paid vets like Walker and RSmith).
If I were GM, I would have done this year 1. Now, I don't know. We have some stud players (and Andre would refuse to resing if we weren't trying) so we could slowly build. But, by not dealing for future picks, we either need to be real lucky with who we select or it will take us years to become a decent team.
BUT - if we blow up everything and take VY, then I would do this with the rest of our picks and trade our aging vets for offensive linemen.

Well we can always trade our #1, #2, and #3s for Bill Belicheck(I'm sure I spelled his name wrong), but anyways he built the Pats with a bunch of nothing. Hey it could happen.:pigfly:
