View Full Version : Why Draft Bush?

There has been greta debate about drafting Bush or VY, I love VY but I trully believe the Texan's have to address a lot of issues in the Draft and RB is not one of them, DD had a decent year, and plus they just signed him up for more money. RB is not all that impressive, instead of CC wasting their money on RB, they need to use it on a OL, DL, LB, TE, CB, and when was the last time the Texans used the Free agent market, it will be very nice to sign some impact free agents, and if CC doesn't do this and the Texans have a losing season again, the fans need to boycott Reliant stadium.

Well.. my arguement for Bush is fairly simple.

Hes fast, hes talented, and his running is still raw. DD DID have a great year.. he is a very good RB, but he is an RB with durability issues. This is the perfect place for Bush to come to because of our Zone Blocking, and the fact that DD is a great complimentary back (very close to Lendale White actually), and that Bush and DD are both better off splitting carries.

Also.. both Bush and DD are great RBs out of the backfield.. both of them are big threats catching the ball.

We dont necessarily NEED an RB.. anymore than we NEED a QB or an LT. But playmakers are good to have.

Speaking of Oline.. our needs at Oline are not as drastic as some people make it out to be. We dont need a whole new line. Pitts is a good LT.. not superstar quality but more than good enough to start at LT in this league.

If we sign LeCharles Bently in free agency.. and draft OT Darryn Colledge in the second and OG Davin Joseph in the third... we will have a nice setup on the Oline I think.

LT: Pitts/Wand/Colledge
LG: Wiegert/Joseph
C: Bentley/Hodgdon
RG: Joseph/Wiegert
RT: Colledge/Wand/Wade

We may need one more Olineman for depth.. McKinney would be good because he can fill in at Center or Guard.. but I dunno if it is cap friendly to keep him.

We should draft Bush because he isn't just a running back. He immediately becomes the second best receiver on the team and forces defenses not to stay super glued to Andre Johnson all of the time.

In theory we probably don't even have to do that much to the line Grid. Bring in Bently I think yeah, no doubt. Then in the 2nd pick the best offensive lineman on the board. Guard, tackle, who cares. Best guy standing there is ours. Then with the two 3's you go find yourself a TE and maybe a LB.

That's two new starters on the line in one year. Too much change too fast could be counterproductive. As maligned as the word "gel" has been in here we all know that changing lines requires some time to do just that.

Bring in a new OC and line coach and we might find Chester Pitts playing LG again. Wand was MIA this past year and many of us believe it was because of something unrelated to the field. I think our new coaching staff will get a much better level of play our of our current linemen. Weigert, Wand, Wade, and I bet even Milford Brown and Fred Weary improve.

Because the Texans don't like the middle of the field anyway?

We love the sidelines. Reggie loves the sidelines. It's a match made in heaven.

(I'm just being silly. I'm stuck at home taking care of a flu patient today.)

You are probably right there Herv.. though I think Pitts will always be a better tackle than guard.

I just think getting another tackle to lock down that RT spot.. and a guard cause we are pretty old at the guard positions, would be a good move.

But if we bring in Kubiak.. and the Denver OL coach.. alot of their starting linemen were had in the 4th round and later.. because the Denver system works better with smaller/faster Olinemen.

So..yah.. TE in the third.. though I think that the new coaching staff will find a lot of talent in our LBs and a CB like Cedrick Griffin, or a DL like Gabe Watson, or a FS.. might be good for us in the third as well.

The Texan's signed DD for money, the need to really invest their money in this draft and free agency. CC has been horrible in the draft. Bush is not the answer!

Why draft Bush?

Because David Carr does NOT have many offensive weapons in his arsenal to begin with. Bush would give David Carr another lethal homerun offensive threat by either taking it to the house running the ball or catching the ball lined up as WR or a RB back in the flat coming out of the backfield.

The Texan's signed DD for money, Bush is not the answer!

Domanick Davis is not even close to being the highest paid RB with his $20 million dollar contract. Deuce McAllister got $50 million before the season started.

And Bush is the answer to the Texans RB and WR problems:thumbup

Bush can and will play multiple positions on offense. He isn't just a RB, and to think of him like that is foolish. If Reggie was just a RB, he wouldn't be a potential #1 pick. What teams like about him is that he is also an excellent receiver. He isn't just a running back who can catch the ball, he could be a starting wide receiver on a lot of teams.

why draft bush? because he can walk on water and play every position on the field! he's the 2nd best receiver on our team! all you have to do is hand it off to him or throw it straight up in the air and it's a touchdown, he can score from anywhere on the field.

seriously, the arguements are getting silly. "we dont have any threats". from the same guys making repeated posts for mathis & armstrong to get on the field because armstrong's got the best hands in the world & mathis is the fastest guy in football. the one person they talk down on is DD ... the only consistant player we have on offense.

these fans are the ones talking down about vince young fans for jumping on his bandwagon, when they did the same thing only 2 months ago with reggie bush.

NEITHER ONE WILL MAKE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THIS TEAM. what will make an impact, is upgrading the overall team talent and filling our blatently obvious holes. and no, we cant fill those holes later in the draft unless you actually think that all of our picks will be starters.

oh, and by the way ... the PLAYOFF game on right now doesnt have a 1000 yard rusher (DD having more yards and a better ypc than both dillan and fred taylor, and is 9th in the NFL in yards per game).

Corey Dillon also has 13 touchdowns compared to Domanick's 6.

As we are/were a run first offense, that pretty much sums up our redzone efficency doesn't it. Our back runs for more yards and better YPC and has less TDs. Kubiack I think likes using a TE and that is something IMO we have missed big time in the redzone.

dillon also has a 2 time superbowl mvp quarterback, and a defense that isnt worst in football. the only things that the teams have in common, is that both offensive lines have been in a commercial. patriots offering a "pocket of protection", and houston's being what they are ... nonexistant.

having something that resembles a passing game is a requirement for getting INTO the redzone.

The thing is that we can fix our O-line in ONE season. Dallas has a terribel D last season, then they dedicated a draft to it and became one the better units in the game. If we go for a trade down, get D'Brick and Giles, get Bently in FA, then we are set with a talented young line for a long time, next season we adress the D in a major way. This way we retool within two seasons, going from 2-14 to a far more complete team with fewer holes...

Dillon is a great running back. He had over 1600 yards rushing last year and has the second most rushing yards ever in a single game.

the pats made the playoffs with smith. they made it with kevin faulk. the made it with a great dillon. they made it with a terrible dillon. offensive line, and defense. the bronco's turnstyle at rb is a perfect example of coaching & line play (tatum bell, anderson, & dayne ... and they're working on having 2 1000yd rushers). DD is as good or better than any rb mentioned, but we're not in the playoffs. so let's do the smart thing ... draft another rb!

my head hurts.

they also made it with Tom Brady.. who Lienart is very much like.

So if we dont take Bush, then we should take Lienart.. or trade down of course :)

Actually if we go with the Denver way we draft backs later in the draft becuase it is a system not the back itself.
