If we wanted to, we could do a franchise tag on David, that keeps him for another year. Draft Vince and sit him for a year to learn. That work for ya?

If it's Vince Young we end up drafting (I personally don't think so, but 'if') than that would be a great idea. Put Carr in a Drew Brees situation. We still have the rights to Carr to renegotiate a new contract if he's worth it or trade him.

Say we franchise Carr and he has a Manning like year then what? We are stuck in the same situation as the Chargers, except we would be paying Young #1 pick money.

That would cost us way way way to much. What, 8-10 million?

Either sign Carr to the 3 year deal, and get reggie, or d'brick.

or release Carr, and get VY, and a vet QB for one year.

The transition tag is sounding better.

This is not going to happen. McNair is not going to pay two extremely high salaried qb's (one to sit on the bench) this year. If the Texans were to draft a qb (don't think they will), then Carr would be a goner.

I FIND THIS TO BE NOT LOGICAL. As has been stated there is just no sense in having that much money tied up in one place.

The chargers have the most expsneivie back up in football and they are good. we can't afford to have money sitting around. we need PLAYERS. I'm willing to suck it up and let vince sit for a year or two.

Well everyone likes Tony Banks and Dave Ragone so much. You could get rid of Carr, let either one of them start for the year while Young sits. But I know one thing that I aint ready to put up with is that the second one of those guys suck, the crowd starts screaming for Young and then we run out a good coach because he wouldn't play Young.

OK, that doesn't trip your trigger, so how about the 2 year extension (5.5 mill). Let him be the pinata for two more years while we build the other spots up for two years. Vince learns, may take over in the second with Carr as the backup. If we think Vince is ready as the starter in year 2, then trade Carr. That work for Ya.

How about trade Carr to a team who has a later first round pick (miami) and get their pick? Then VY can bring that winning formula back home.

Can we get a first round pick for Carr right now?

In that case you play VY as the third and short option QB and as an H-back and in the back field for the occasional (like 4-5 times a game) halfback pass/run option and even at wide reciever! Then you have the same scenario as Carr/Bush except Carr/Young is much more versitle! Just think of the options? To me that it is the ultimate best case scenario. The problem w/ super atheletes as a QB is a QB's job is to get the ball in the hands of your best playmakers. It is kinda like a shooting point guard in basketball good but not ideal. No if Carr developes and you also had YV that could be unstopable!

Franchise tag is average of top 3 paid at the position right?

Isn't that Manning, McNabb, and Vick? I believe they all have contracts that are north of $100 Million which means that we would be paying David a lot of money.

If the Texans were to slap a Franchise Tag on Carr for 1 year could we turn around and trade him immediately after that?

For 26 just said that the Texans may put a Franchise Tag on Carr.

Stated on another thread is that Carr is due a bonus. He's not a free agent and therefore cannot have the franchise tag put on him. Basically we cut him and don't pay the bonus, and take the cap hit, or we pay him his money. It's part of his rookie contract, can't do anything about it.

Actually, if we DON'T exercise the option, he then becomes a UFA.

We need a cap expert in here, but I am next to positive that a player has to be in the last year of his contract to get the franchise tag. Also, thatd be giving Carr a big raise instead of just paying the bonus in the first place. The raise would actually be higher than the franchise tag would cost possibly, if the tag can even be given. Why I think the player has to be in the last year of his contract is that we cannot franchise a player from another team, and if we cut Carr, it's like we never really had him, other than we take the cap hit. Again, it may be possible to cut him and franchise him, but I don't think it is. I'm not an expert and I can't find the rules that specific on the internet. And again, I think the bonus would be cheaper than cutting him and giving him a raise.

I don't think you can cut a player and then franchise him. Once you cut him, they are gone.

If David Carr had a Peyton-like season (14 wins/Superbowl favorites) I wouldn't care how much we had to shell out to keep him and then trade VY.

But that is as unrealistic as my dream: trading DC to NO for their #2 overall pick.
