After a tumultuous season littered with on-field inconsistency and off-field embarrassments, the Minnesota Vikings fired head coach Mike Tice on Sunday.

While the team did rebound from a 2-5 start to finish 9-7 -- narrowly missing the playoffs -- owner Zygi Wilf decided not to renew Tice's contract. The fate of Tice's staff was not immediately clear.

Tice compiled a 32-35 record since first assuming the head coaching position on an interim basis for the last game of the 2001 season. Under his stewardship, the Vikings made one playoff appearance, as a wild-card entry in 2004.

Damn, he finishes 9-7 with that squad and gets fired. For shame.

This isn't much of a surprise. After the Love Boat, the ticket scalping, and the years of underacheiving, he deserved to be fired. He should have been fired a few years ago.
