The more i watch our defense play, the more I am starting to advocate us trading down twice, and taking either Brooks or Plouzz with our first pick. We need a Stud MLB. My new, still undecided version of a mock for us:

1. Plouz
2. McNeil
2. Dumervile
2. Davin Joseph
3. Lawson
3. Jason Allen
3. Jason Avant
3. Gordon
4. Dwayne Slay
5. Luiti

If we end up with the #1 pick I am definitely in favor of trading down, twice if possible, but I still would like to see us get the best OL available in the 1st round and with one of our high 2nd round picks, then look for defense from there other than maybe grabbing a fast WR along the way if a decent one is available (it would be great if we could find another Jerome Mathis-type in the 4th round again).

Nice fantasy there but really, do you think there is any chance at all that the Texans (this "administration" or the one that follows it) are going to fix that much in a single draft.

If they're as bad as all that then it's going to be a 2-3 draft process. Nobody's going to replace almost half of their starters in a single draft. Nobody.

Ok, now that I am back from church, I will attempt to describe my thought process of my current thinking.

OFFSEASON:
Capers and Casserly are let go a week after the season ends for us. No coach is imediatly announced. Shortly after the release of those two, it is announced that we, as an organization, will evaluate each assistant coach individually. Within a week of this announcment, we find out that all current coaches except marchiano and hoke are released and given the chance to find jobs in a different organization.

The vacant coaching position is narrowed down between kubiak and philips. Kubiak brings an offensive approach, while philips has had previous sucess running the 3-4. Kubiak is appointed coach of the Houston Texans because of his different style of play that the organization feels is headed closer to the direction they would like to be.

Dan Reeves is a final canidate for the vacant GM position along with Jimmy Johnson and YoungTexanFan. Unfortunatly, Dan Reeves is appointed to the GM position.

He sets out imediatly to upgrade the entire team. He has evaluated the talent, and decides to clean house the best he can. He makes a few major FA moves, the most notable being the signing of LeCharles Bently to play C for our team. Charles Rogers is also signed. Other players are signed for depth mostly.

DRAFT:
The talent assesment done towards the end of the season has a dreary outlook, and it is decided that we must aquire the most talent possible at positions of need. It is a new stragagy that at some point, all teams with major needs must accept. The Houston Texans mull the possibilities of the #1 overall pick, but in the end decide to trade down, allowing a team to pick Reggie Bush. They again decide to trade down in an attempt to restock their team, and infuse it with young talent. (I have not mentioned teams or actual selection number, as that is not yet detirmined.)
This is my revised draft:
1. Plouz - He provides the solid and spectacular MLB that the Texans have been lacking. He is an underrated LB who comes from a great program. He imediatly upgrades one of the worst LB groups in the league.

2. McNeil - He is able to sit and learn a year, due to Wade's contract. He is the future RT of this franchise. Pitts is able to retain the LT spot for now.

2. Ko Simpson - He has not been hyped but is still almost certian to enter the draft (as of last report, although he would benifit from staying). He becomes a ballhawking FS and former teamate of Robinson.

2. Davin Joseph - He comes in to the league as a starter at LG. He helps anchor a new line, and is helped in his learning by Bently.

3. Lawson - Lawson is a physical freak who has the ability to get to the QB. He is overshadowed by Mario.

3. Dumervile - He starts off his career as a situational pass rusher. He eventually will work his way into the OLB spot.

3. Gordon - The small but extremly quick Gordon starts off his career as a nickle back and special teams player. He is still considered raw, but his potential is tremendous.

3. Jason Allen -Allen falls more than expected due to his injury, which is more serious that originally believed. This pick is considered a gamble, but the potential player they might get if he recovers is too much to pass up this late.

4. Dwayne Slay - He is an ideal SS in this league. He is a playmaker, setting records or forced fumbles at Tech. He is played in a reserve role behind glenn earl, but still manages to impress on special teams. When he is on the field, he is allowed to roam the LOS, ala Roy Williams.

5. Luiti - The BIG man from USC is allowed to sit behind Weigert for a year. He is not forced to play much, but is allowed to slowly adjust to the life of a NFL RG. He is helped along by Weigert and Bently and quickly becomes Weigerts student.

That is my offseason idea and vision for our draft. The only picks I feel might change are Lawson and Allen. Lawson could rise up or fall. Jason Allen can only fall at this point. I have us taking a flyer on him, as we did with Charles Rogers.

We will not go into the 5th round without selecting a TE. We need one so bad and i think Tim Day is the best option. We can get if we dont trade up back into the late first round.

I took that into heavy consideration, but right now I feel we are best suited to wait until next year for Olsen. I would rather not even have to use a spot that doesnt play on a 5th rounder. Greg Olsen is going to be better than Shokey and more complete than K2 was supposed to be.

I also figured we would take a chance on a FA TE, having this position addressed before the draft. This fix is only on a temporary basis, a one year contract. I just could not recall any of the names of the FA.

That would sound like the ideal situtation, the only question being what are we playing defensivley, 4-3 or 3-4. I think from your selections your implying a 4-3, in which case Greenwood would go to ROLB, Wong? LOLB, with Poluz MLB? In your scenario what would happen to Peek, Babin, Shante Orr... also, would Rogers be the # 2 receiver? He is still under contract, as far as I am aware...

Remeber this is Kubiak's offense, keep that in mind before splashing out on a TE, he MUST be good at blocking

I understand that and taking that into account then I think the only remaining thing your scenario suffers from is a lack of knowing what we do in free agency. Everybody's plan has that problem though. Until we see what gets addressed in free agency we won't really have a clear view of how the draft goes. Just a couple of free agents could change how we draft a great deal.

yes, most premier FA will be resigned before we have a real shot at them. I tried to keep the FA signings to a minimum, only projecting the most likely ones to be released.

In this situation I still have us playing the 3-4. It is a better system that actually we are geared more towards. Our version of the 3-4 is what is no good. All other versions of the 3-4 are run much more efficiently than us. With a new DC, all of this will change.

How I see it:

--------Peek/Babin------Wong-----Poluz------Greenwood/Orr--------

Rogers is set to compete with mathis for #2 reciever. Gaffney and Bradford are both released. Armstrong is given a chance to play Gaffney. Our recieving Core looks as followed: AJ, Mathis, Rogers, Armstrong, guy from canada.

I believe rogers is a RFA and I have heard many reports that he will not be retained if he would like to sign elsewhere. He has the talent, and at the price he will come, he is worth taking the flyer on. He was picked AHEAD of AJ remember. Granted that wasnt a smart move in hindsight, but he has MUCH better hands and just lacks that beastly size of AJ.

I also tried to take that into minimal consideration, but after next year, our front office will be calling for Olsen if Bennie can't come back. Right now we have the perfect TE for a first year Kubiak offense. Bruner is a great blocking TE, and Kubiak does believe strongly in the run. He also already uses our zone blocking scheme.

I wish you would all stop specualting on something that might never happen. If you say this is my dream or something then ok. But come on lets stop living in a fantasy world. If we change to a 4-3 then 1st we have to a 4-3 coach which we dont have. Until then this is all speculation and we should look at 3-4 possibilities until we sign that coach. Now i am going to have to do my reasearch on this ploutz guys before i give my seal on this. There are like 3 other LB's that i know of that are ranked higher than him. So if we dont take Greenway, Brooks, Hawk that means we have to drop into top 15. I have even seen Brooks slippin to 14 or 15. I have seen Hawk going 4-6 and Greenway going 7-9. So it cant be anywhere. I will have to see where my sources say on this.

I am about value, but I feel Gaffney is worth the extra money. That is under the presupposition that the whole offense gets better - Carr, Oline, TE. Very sound slot receiver.

As of now at least, I am assuming the 3-4 is still in place. Hence why I went LB early. Plouz is a standout ILB from the linebacker university: Penn State. He beat out all other LB's, including Hawk and Brooks for the top LB and overall top defender in the nation. He is only a junior also folks. This is not a surprise year either, he has done it before. Greenway is not a top 3 LB. He could VERY easily go in the second round. There is also no way he goes before Brooks.

With Bradford gone, you resign Gaffney at a couple of hundred thousand more. You then look at FA, draft and/or resign Armstrong. Moreover, Mathis should get more plays at WR.

The passing game needs attention but those changes could come easily at other positions and they will have a residual effect.

The recieving corps, the RB group, and and D-line should be the easiest units to maintain and fix this offseason.

Bush is not needed, but the Main groups that need to be fixed IMO: O-line, LB, Secondary.

How is he going to enter the draft when he's a true sophmore? Who is reporting this stuff?

He is a true soph. but is 3 years removed from HS. He is eligible and is strongly considering entering the draft according to almost every report. Yes, he will be a great player. He would benifit from returning to school, but it could help us this year if he does indeed declare.
