man there are a lot of horrible teams this year. 7 teams are 2 and 7. so if we win one we could drop to the 8th spot. depending on strength of schedule.

Who would you like to see coach. Personally I think any change right now would help. I just wanna see the Texans do better. So I hope we do get that 1st pick and use it wisely.

lets not make things harder than they already are. we need a ton (literally) of talent added to this Texans roster, it does not cut it across the board. watching all the D-Lineman go down today reminded me once again why Casserly & Cappers saw such a need to draft the best DT in the draft, what a mess. then all the injurys to the offensive line, its either some kind of curse of the worst luck in the world. not to mention out of all those players on both lines Travis Johnson is the only one drafted from the 1st rd. (I'm guessing on this one so if anyone knows better please correct me if I'm wrong).

The Texans have a pair of 1st rd corners in PB & DR, but the safetys and nickel backs are all reserves with Coleman on the downside of his career. The Linebacking core has been heavily invested in but once again sustained multiple injurys and lacks depth. The offensive backfield has a lone 1st rd pick in Carr, Hollings is the highest drafted RB (2nd rd pick) with just two receivers drafted in franchise history 1st two rounds.

In a nutshell where is all the talent after 4 years of drafts and free agency? with the combination of injurys and lack of talent our record makes a little more sense if you think about it. Today I thought the Texans played hard and about as well as could be expected under the circumstances.

I am an Aggie, but I think VY will be a good QB in this league comparable to Randall Cunningham. He will need 2 to 3 years in the league before he is a legitimate passing threat, but after he becomes one watch out if they put talent around him. If he goes to a place like Detroit or Baltimore he will be lights out in year 3.

I am in favor of an all U draft.
1. Eric Winston
2. Orien Harris
3.a Sinorice Moss
3.b Greg Threat
4. Rocky McIntosh
5. Kelly Jennings
6. Javon Nanton
7 Leon Williams

thats new, and quite unique. I have a different oppinion and dont actually agree with any of the people you have selected. I love the U, but i dont want any of their guys this year, unless winston falls to the second. :ok:

It is just an unique take on the draft. Rocky McIntosh, Threat, Moss, Winston, Jennings will be good players in this league. With rocky, moss, and winston likely being future pro-bowlers.

Winston should be a pro-bowler easily. McIntosh reminds me of keith bullock, if he succedes, it will not be imediate. I do not see moss making the pro-bowl.

Santana will make it this year and Sinorice is at least as good as him. He is fast and sure handed, plus would be a good return option for the oft-injured mathis. I am thinking along the lines of roscoe parrish but a little faster.

Reggie bush....... Man i'm kinda so-so on this vince young talk i think he has a chance to be a great nfl quarterback but he seriously is nothing like any of the other running qbs to come out, he's tall very athletic, and he's proven to play big at every level so who knows he might be a good nfl qb...but then again he could turn out like andre ware.....

Coach C.
11-13-2005, 11:54 PM
texan think Randall Cunningham. A guy that was a runner and learned to pass the ball. That is what VY will do in the league. He has the talent to be really good. He goes to Detroit and watch out.

Well we run a risk always while drafting a QB Like Young Or leinart they have a chance to be a bust like what we have know lets say we draft Vince young or Matt Lion Heart they can pretty much turn out to be a bust Like Carr Ware Shuler And leaf.

Or that the Texans have a high draft pick again in 2007 because Vince will NOT come out this year. Ricky Williams didnt, Roy Williams didnt, Derrick Johnson didnt, what makes everybody so sure that he will? I think he is smart enough to know that another year to work on his passing would be a really good idea.

7 games left in the season. Regardless of a 1-8 record, no. 1 draft pick talk is premature. We could still be 8-8 by the end of the season! :D

That being said, I know it's not a glamorous pick, but I'm hoping for someone like D'Brickashaw Ferguson or a Joe Thomas. We NEED offensive linemen, and the only way to get a franchise tackle is to draft him and keep him.

Anyway, it ain't over until it's over, and our 7 game season starts next Sunday night against the Chiefs.

So I expect to see all of you there, and we should be LOUD, PROUD, and TEXAN!! :texflag:

If we can't do right by the qb we have why bring in another to torture?

Drafting a qb would just be ridiculous and i loooooooove VY but he would never develop as a passer with Houston given our current O-Line situation which will take at least 2 years to fix.

That's a lot of if's, but one thing he can do is learn to more effectively pass the ball. Throwing motion, accuracy, better read defense, etc... QB is a always learning and getting better position.

The way I see it playing out is Young stays for his senior year, Carr is given a two/three year extension/buyback ('06-'07, '07-'08, '08-'09 seasons). Young is drafted in next years draft ('06-'07), sits the year behind Carr ('07-'08), starts or competes the year after for starting QB. This draft ('05-'06) we get better olinemen, give them some time to gel before brining in Young.

One can only dream right?

But eventually we will have to take our chances and draft a new QB. I still say we go after Bush and put him or davis at WR and then a LT and stick with carr 1 more year to see what he can do with protection. Thats just me though!

I like that.

I want to keep Crarr. Draft D'brick, and Davin Joseph, or take Bush, and Jonathan Scott.

LT Ferguson
LG Pitts
C Hodgdon
RG Joseph
RT Wade

or

LT Scott
LG Pitts
C Hodgdon
RG Brown
RT Wade

WR Johnson
WR/RB Bush
WR Mathis
WR Gaffney

I think the first option is the best.

IMO the most interesting thing about Reggie Bush will be what we can get draft day trading partners to give up in order to get him. There are several teams that are bad that would kill to get him (49ers, Green Bay, Jets, and Arizona to name a few). In addition, there are teams that will want Leinart (Miami, Cleavland, Arizona, Baltimore, Jets perhaps).

It is possible we could be in a terrific position to get some nice value for only dropping down a few places and still get one of the top 3 LT's. Let the other bad teams get the QB or RB playmaker..I would rather have their first round pick and an extra pick in the 2-4 range from any of the guys above.

i hope someone who needs a qb gets number two pick and we get number one, we could trade spots with them for their pick and maybe a third or fourth rounder...pick up bush and be happy..the reason they would want to trade is because they would'nt want us to trade that #1 pick to anyone else.

No look at the Manning or Williams rule. If there is an outstanding prospect that everybody is dying to get. you could just fall 2 spots and pick up and extra 3rd and there 1st rounders for the following year.

Actually, I am. If we don't take one of the top 3 LT prospects with our first pick, that is a huge mistake. Every football team at any level succeeds or fails based on primarily how strong (or weak) they are right up the middle on both sides of the ball and the Texans have the weakest OL in the business. Quality OL's are built primarily through the draft with high picks. A quality OL is the foundation we can build a good offense on once we get new coaches here.

The Colts are 9-0 and they only have one guy that was acquired above the 4th rnd of the draft on their O-line. They also have two guys they acquired though free agency. They did acquire WR,QB,and RB in the first rnd. We have two of these WR and QB. Why not model our team on a winning formula?

because the other players have developed, ours have not. we need someone of top talent on the line and a new set of coaches. I blame 3 people for our misery the past 4 years:

Well, that presentation seems a little less than full disclosure. The one guy they acquired above the 4th round was their LT and he was acquired with a 1st round pick--you could throw in the TE as well, also a 1st round pick. So why not model our team on a winning formula and draft a LT?

A LT is at the top of my list in the first round and with a possible trade down for extra picks we may take the best OL avl. in the second round.

We tried to acquire Orlando Pace last year and couldn't. Therefore we are going to draft the best LT in the draft. Elite linemen are very expensive too, so drafting one rather than pursuing one through free agency would make sense because then we can spend the saved money on other positions.

Yup, the #1 guy is projecting out at about $9.1 mil per year on their contract.

That is almost $3 mil over the franchise number for RB's by the way for the Bush fans.

tulexan
11-17-2005, 12:14 AM
No I realize that they are getting paid a lot. But it is also depends on the player and the position. Walter Jones and Orlando Pace both received contracts around 7 years and $50 Million. Alex Smith, Eli Manning, and Phillip Rivers all received huge contracts because players at the top of their position are receiving well over $10 Million/year. Even if D'Brick got a similar contact to Jones and Pace, which I don't think he will, we are still getting a younger player, not one who is in their late 20's or early 30's.

The contracts on draft picks aren't done on position much if at all. They are essentially done as slots. The teams and the agents negotiate a deal generally around 10% better for the same slot the year before. There is no way we could take a LT or RB with the #1 overall and get them to play for a $5 or 6 mil average contract.

Still LMAO @ Vince Young avatars. :tv: I think if I had a bad day...i'll just come back here and look @ the Young avatars...always makes me laugh a lil bit. HE'S STAYING IN SCHOOL FOOLS!! :D HOOK EM! Players DONT leave UT early. Sorry folks, he's staying...he'll prolly be a someone else's in 2007.

ANYWAY...We either draft the Brickstar, or draft Bush...Bush if we're #1...any other place, draft at least Winston or Scott...(Scott > Winston..but still..)

Besides that...I would like a shot @ Michael Huff, but he's too good, he'll be gone in the top 15-20 most likely. Also a TE..and this draft is somewhat rich at TE with Thomas (UT),Lewis (UCLA),the Byrd-man (USC), Pope (Georgia), and Davis (Maryland).
