Actually, we have heard the "still the Bengals" arguement from everyone we have played so far. While we are still the Bengals, we have not been the Bengals of old since the arrival of Marvin Lewis. This is not to say you can't win this game, just that this arguement can no longer be used as to why a team will win a game when playing against us. There are many, many logical football arguements that can be used but "still the Bengals" isn't one of them.

Rudi only has one touchdown this year. You have to do more than just stop him. You'll have to put a lot of pressure on Palmer and play a lot tighter on the receivers in the secondary.

Second of all the Bengals don't have a great history of winning in the NFL.
going to the SUPERBOWL twice and losing to Joe Montana both times doesn't count as a great legacy.

This is a dangerous game for the Bengals. We're 3-0, we're getting a ton of national attention, we're playing at home, and next week we play on national TV in what could be a battle of unbeatens against Jacksonville in the ESPN Sunday Night game. The Texans game has all the makings of a "let down" game for the Bengals. They could easily get caught looking ahead to the matchup with the Jags and get knocked off by Houston. But I don't think Marvin Lewis will let that happen. We've been down for way too long, and these guys are way too hungry to be overlooking anyone. I think we might start out slowly, but we'll come on strong before it's over.

Riiiiiiight...as a Wildcard team, I would assume? Your team is not going to win a division that you share with the Steelers any more than the Texans will win a division shared with the Colts.

Face it, while the Texans might be down and out at the moment, you are raw meat to the Steelers.

You do realize how unlikely it is for a Wildcard team to make it to the Superbowl, much less win it, 'eh? :pigfly:

Slow down a little bit there metalmike.

First off, I agree, learn how to spell.

Second, I agree again. We don't have a great NFL legacy, but a little more so than your Texans down. I'll even throw in the Oilers and the Bengals still have more of a history. Still, inconsequential.

Thirdly, you're WAAAAAY OFFFF saying Andre Johnson is better than Chad Johnson. I'm a diehard Bengals fan and I actually drafted AJ ahead of CJ three years in my dynasty fantasy league (Chad was available from the year before, Andre a rookie) and I've regretted it ever since. Look at the numbers since 2003. Just give 'em a peek. Other than AJ's game against Minnesota last year, he's basically done nothing to even warrant a discussion about this. I bought DirectTV for Sunday Ticket just so I could watch AJ on a regular basis since I loved him at Miami. Chad is sooooo much faster in and out of routes its' sick. He's got better hands, better moves, and adjusts to the ball better in the air. Watch his TD catches against the Steelers and Jets from last year. Rediculous!

Fourth, whats the Reds record you ask? The answer: 5 World Series Championships, Astros Zero. As far as the NBA goes, seriously who cares??

With that said, you guys do have the best logo in sports, but Bengals 38, Texans 6.

I think the Bengals will win it.

Bengals 30
Texans 21

The Texan offense surprises the bengals D with really aggressive playcalling and scores early and go into halftime with a 14-3 lead over Cincy.

In the 3rd bengals start to find their groove and score a TD and Field Goal to take a 17-14 lead into the 4th. The Bengals then get 2 more field goals and lead 23 - 14 When the Defense gets a gift turnover and the texan offense capitalizes to cut the lead to 23-21 late in the fourth.. The Bengals however just feed Rudi the ball late and our defense is tired and Rudi Johnson runs it in from 12 yards out with 1:45 to play putting the game away for Cincy.

We will lose but this will be a game that gives us confidence hanging with a team that has blown out teams that were early season superbowl contenders.

Bengals are good and I am glad they are... I want to see different teams in the playoffs besides the pats colts and steelers... I think if they can stay healthy, they have a chance to take the division. I cant wait till Cin and Pit face off. That will be the true test for them.

And now we start off 3-0 and have been getting rave reviews from columnist's everywhere. Exactly two 8-8 seasons. I think we're all for you guys getting better (except this week, lol), its just the people that say 16-0 and SB. Its possible, but the road goes through PIT, NE, and PHI. Start small, say 9-7 a winning season - then predict championship. My :twocents: . We're aiming to be competitive. To each his own though. Best of luck....(next week)

ha, i felt that way about the bears last week watching kyle orton. As a current Purdue student I want to see him do well, but not against my team and then he threw 5 picks... but i digress.

Anyway, I don't think anyone but the most biased bengals fans are saying 16-0 and most of us are mainly realistic. however, as a fan that went to every game the season they went 2-14 and the seasons before, I am just ecstatic to see such progress in a 3-0 start. I really feel that the marvin era has pushed us past those days of the bungles and its not a fair label to just throw at the team without any recent basis behind it. I guess the players and the rest of the season will be to continue to prove the naysayers wrong.

I was predicting better things from the Texans this year. I thought Carr would mature as a QB, and I still think Domanick Davis is one of the better backs in the league. I am surprised you guys are struggling as bad as you are.

My Prediction:

The Bengals get their first shut out of the year:
Bengals 27
Texans 0

Since the Bengals have yet to play the Colts in the regular season, let's take a look at a common denominator. The Browns, since both teams have played them. The Bengals played them in Cleveland, and the Colts played them in Indy.

The Bengals basically manhandled the Browns and scored on them at will towards the end of the game. The Colts were lucky to score 13 points against the Browns in the RCA down.

Yeah just wait till week 5, then we can kick Crying Byron's butt up and down the field.

Now why are you going to say that and get some Jag fans in the convo?

Come week 5, the Bungles will get a real reality check in front of national TV. Our defense is statistically the second best in the league, and best in the AFC. Henderstroud will be all over Palmer all night and CJ will end up marking a "yes" in his matchup column when he meets Rashean. Just because you all are 3-0, doesn't mean nothing until late in the season. Look at the 2004 Jags for example.

To tell you the truth, I hope the Bungles are undefeated coming into week 5. It will make it that much satisfying when we win.

It will happen, the Texans will prevail! We are gonna upset them and you heard it here first!!! GO TEXANS!!!! :texflag: :texans: :fans:

I think it's obvious this is a risky game for Cincy. They're heavily favored against a team with a good amount of talent who needs a win bad. DD does concern me, as does Johnson.

For the Texans, the keys to the game are:

1. Got to slow down Cincy's offense early - it can be done. See last week's game.

2. Avoid turnovers. Do NOT see last two weeks games, where Cincy set NFL record with 5 INTs two weeks in a row.

3. Pound with DD and throw to TE - you can be successful there if you can stick with it. You'll need to take a few shots to AJ as well. Careful of rookie (Def rookie of month) O. Thurman - if you throw and make TE vulnerable, you'll need another TE - he's been laying people out.

I have DD on my FFL team, and he'll be starting for me this week. I have Carr on the bench - I expected more from him this year, as I'm sure you did as well. I am nowhere near ready to cut him - I think he'll come around and post decent numbers this year.

If you guys do those three things, and I suspect you'll try it, this is anyone's game. My expectation, and honestly my hope is that you can't do all three enough to win.

Here's to a clean, injury-free game that we can all enjoy!

I'll predict 20-10 Bengals; more often than not, the prognosticators hit it close.

Maybe it is just the three enchiladas rice and beans that I had for lunch today but I have a good feeling about this weeks game. I think that Pendry's little adjustment of screaming at the players when they mess up is going to make a big difference this week. I might just be crazy but I believe that we are going to win.

I hate to say it but I'd be happy with a very competitive game. Cincinnati has been on the verge of the playoffs for 2 years now as were the Bills last year. Looking at the schedule when it was released I was hoping to beat one of these two teams in the 1st three games. I didn't realistically expect to beat the Steelers.

Looking ahead I think we can beat the following (or at least have a chance):

Bengals
Titans (x1)
Browns
Jaguars (x1)
Chiefs or Rams
Cards
49ers

That's 7 games.

texasguy346
09-30-2005, 04:33 PM
This is a tough week to predict since we're all waiting to see if the offense responds to Pendry. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Texans pull out a win. After two rough weeks last season they managed to pull out a win against a talented KC team, and I think we can do the same to the Bengals provided that the team plays up to their potential.

I honestly believe that if the Bengals lose this game, they don't deserve, nor will they make the playoffs.

Playing a team that is struggling so bad, and has fired a key coach since their last game, in Cincinnati - we HAVE to be able to win such a game. These are the games playoff teams win, and also-rans lose.

No doubt HOU has talent, but there's too much of a mess to beat a playoff team.

Weve been playing 3 years now and where what have we been doing. Is it the players. The upper management. We need some serious help.Dont think David Carr is going to be the Strong quarterback that we need.We need him to be like an aikman when he started.Come on texans, get with the program.Changes have to be made soon. Were playing as bad as the bengals in recent years, and the chicago bears. :texflag:

I think I pretty much called it; quick-hitter passes, run a lot, take a couple shots downfield and it'll be close.

I picked 20-10, final 16-10. If only I could be so accurate all year.

You guys played tougher than I thought you would; it was a very good game.

Too bad that officials' call late in the game was necessary.

Good luck the rest of the year.
