He always did "Keek the touchdowns" for us. First as an Oiler, then as a Gambler.

Even years later during that whole "Ian Howfield" debacle I had it in the back of my mind that no matter how old he was Toni could have done better.

A member of the last truly great Houston football team (78-80 Oilers) is gone and it makes me realize that we're going to start losing those guys pretty soon. It's one of those losses that you really feel if you loved that team. Those guys played above their level not beneath hit (yes Texans, after Sunday that was aimed squarely at you).

A cute little story:
"The first place we went was Vienna, and the first player we tried out was Toni Fritsch," then-Cowboys personnel director Gil Brandt recalled Tuesday in Dallas. "He had a hard time speaking English at first, but he did master it."

Brandt recalled that Fritsch kicked the winning field goal in his NFL debut. It was a 26-yarder with 1:53 left that gave Dallas a 16-13 victory over the Cardinals in St. Louis.

"It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen," Brandt said. "A linebacker for the Cardinals was hollering, `Choke, Fritsch, choke!' and Dave Edwards, our upback on the protection team, said, `He can't understand English.'"

Bum Phillips said in his autobiography that Toni Fritsch was so good at kicking field goals that he would practice missing them.

Wow, I haven't heard his name in quite a awhile now. Man, he was still pretty young at 60. That's a shame. :(

RIP Tony Fritsch

Boy, time marches on.
Toni was like money in the bank. How many games did he win for us? Amazing.
R.I.P.

We still have a little Oiler in us and it's sad to hear my heart goes out to his family.
