View Full Version : Its an ominous sign to be starting a journeyman RT at LT

Not my words, thats what Charlie Pallilo said on Channel 13s "Extra Points"
last Saturday night prior to the Texans season opener in Buffalo.
Many of us have said they same thing in different ways during pre season
when it became apparent that Riley had beaten out Seth Wand as the LT.
What makes yesterdays game so stunning is that its a continuation of the last game of the 2004 season ! In other words they've had 8 months, a college Draft, and FA season to make corrections and they have failed to do
so. I don't want to get melodramatic or something and say there's a cancer
in the Texans organization or some **** like that, but something is radically wrong to begin the season like this. To lose a close game to a good Bills team in their home opener in which we were competitive late into the 4th quarter would not even be disappointing, though we would hope to win. But certainly not radically wrong. But to lose like we did yesterday was totally unexpected and the only game I can compare it to was the last game of last season.

The wave this staff created has come ashore and is now beginning to drift back towards the ocean. We need a staff who can take it to the next level...one that can create a bigger wave and go farther ashore...

I wonder what these boards wil be like if we somehow, miraculously, beat Pittsburgh.

I for one won't be changing my tune if the Texans get by the Steelers. Anyone who thinks that a fluke win over Pittsburgh by the team that played yesterday in Buffalo is a sign things are alright needs to put the pipe down.

I don't know what "beaten out" means in this case. Riley ran with the 1st team from the 2nd or 3rd day of camp. There was no competition. Pendry just gave him the job. As bad as our line is, he takes out the guy who has the most chance for improvement:

- 3 year project who exceeded expectations and started his 2nd year.
- Has not reached his peek - can improve with the chance and proper coaching
- knows how to play with the other lineman. See Riley's comments on communication failures in the Chronicle

Riley came into coaches sessions fat and out of shape. He made some weight target before camp and was presented the starting job, and he's still fighting the weight problem.

Pendry also tried to substitute Spears for Wand last year. The problem is Pendry and how he evaluates talent. He supposed to make all of his lineman better, not have them repeat the same mistakes every year due to inflexible OL schemes.

Yeah...but past seasons say the rest of the board will. Just watch...many will be saying, "After seeing how the Texans just out-performed the Steelers, there's no doubt in my mind that the loss to the Bills was just a fluke.....Texans are playoff bound this year!!"

You should know, you've been around for it time and time again.

I totally agree because we should not only be a descent team by now, but we should also be a consistant, stable team.

With say, 47 yards offense? It will ease the pain - but the cut will still remain. (poet and didn't know it)

It most likely will have to take a good win streak and/or a winning season to save a few jobs or prevent a few changes happening. Of course, changes were supposed to happen this past offseason... and... well....

One game into the season.... let's see.

We could win 1 more game over last year and my tune does not change. This crew was brought in to get a franchise on its feet as quickly as possible...not to win a ring.
