Maybe he didn't know what to do with all that time in the backfield.

W-H-A-T-E-V-E-R!!!! I supported drafting Carr, but there is absolutely no excuse for tonight.
He had plenty of time but it's the little things...

DON'T throw off your back foot.
DO look off defenders
DON'T lock in on a receiver.
DO throw crisp passes
DON'T use the excuse it's preseason for a bad performance. PERFECT PRACTICE makes more PERFECT EXECUTION

i would have to Answer A). But WTF that was horrible a passer rating of 5.7 holy crap!!!!! It was almost like they did not practice this week. The bad thing is that next week really wont count as it will just be out 2nd 3rd and hopefulls on the field. I hope DOM RIPS them all a new one.....

No sky is falling crap from me, but my god we are better than that.... If they (the first team) had gotten a score i would be so OK with that.. But i keep going back to the passer rateing of 5.7 :embarrass

Don't forget. Andre dropped 3 passes I think it was, his incompletes to Bradford I think may have been on Bradford, and one of his INT's was in the hands of Matt Murphy and he could not hang onto it.

The only big mistake he made was the INT in the endzone. People need to chill......

It's the same mistake he has made from year one to now, the guy is clueless when he gets into the red zone.

Why is AJ suddenly having 10 thumbs again? Preseason is just weird.

Carr had a bad game, no doubt about it. But isn't preseason the best time to have a bad game? I bet he'll go to work even harder to prepare himself for the the regular season... the cowgirls gave him a wake up call... I think he'll answer the challenge.

Keep in mind the offense is supposed to be working on shorter drops and shorter routes in an attempt to get rid of the ball quicker. The faster you get rid of the ball, the less receivers you have time to look for. Even if the sacks go down, the offense won't be that much better. But hopefully Carr will be able to stop running for his life and start acting like a quarterback again... it's been a while and it won't happen overnight.

How sharp would the top Q-backs in the NFL be after 3 seasons with the Texans that Carr had to survive? Wouldn't their skills decline after 3 years of running for their lives and taking more hits than any other Q-back?

As much as I would have liked to have seen improvement in the personnel in the o-line, it was the defense that was the weakest link last year. Changes have been implemented, and although I think the team will struggle early in the season, I bet they'll come together as the season progresses and play like a winning team at one point or another during the regular season.

E) this is the type of Qb he is.

What you saw against Dallas you will see a couple of more times this year. He is in that Jake Plummer, Aaron Brooks, Matt Hasslebeck QB. A starting quality Qb who is too inconsistent in decision making and accuracy to move into the elite level. There will be games where he looks all-world, others like just a guy, and a couple like this one. This is David Carr.

:dontknowa I am not going to panic but I will start to wonder if Carr is a future star . In fairness to Carr I 'm really confused about the whole situation . Again I'm not hitting the panic button but I'm not drooling for the season to start ,their not ready .

Hold up a second. Maybe you blinked before the "dropped passes."

I saw passes thrown so high or so far in front of and/or behind the receivers that the Cowboy defenders were just teeing off on our receivers as they jumped or dove for inaccurately thrown passes from Carr.

YOU get some air against Roy Williams and see what happens. Be sure you call me from the ER after you do.

At some point, a WR is going to have to go over the middle and take one for the team (to get a key first down, etc.)....but last night was so bizarre it absolutely warrants the criticism that most of us are laying at the feet of this team.

"It's only preseason....."

"Gosh, so many chicken littles here.........."

If last night's performance did NOT rattle your cage, even a LITTLE, what will?

My projection was for a 9-7 record (at best) but more realistically an 8-8 season record. Honestly, it just dropped to 8-8 (at best) and 7-9 more realistically. I hope and pray we do 8-8 or better.....but last night's performance, albeit a pre-season game, was so concerning to me (personally) that I'm having doubts that we go better than 8-8. if so, I'll take my medicine like a man. But after last night's humiliating performance...it just doesn;t look as promising for us as I had firts thought during training camp.

Carr looked like a high school QB playing against NFL quality corners last night. Ragone could have started and played the whole game and I would understand a 5.7 QB rating from it, perhaps. But a 4th season starting QB with multiple games experience making those kinds of throws is simply frightening for the season, and unacceptable.

The interception in the endzone was pure and simply a STUPID decision.

And all you "Pre-season game" only spouters can duck behind your optimism all you want.

But with the first time that the Offense gets a chance to play together and see what the future season looks like, and they come out and play a game like that. Embarrassed to call themselves NFL players is what they should be.

He made fewer bad decisions in 2004 statistically(see KCJoyner's book) than any other Qb in the NFL except Peyton Manning and Byron Leftwich.

Didn't anyone notice the several times Carr threw to the outside, and the receiver moved inside? Or vice versa?
Was that the QB or WR messing up?

Yes that interception in the endzone was a poor decision, but ask yourself this question...if the texans had played an outstanding game against dallas, would you have praised them for their improvement? Or merely shrugged it off as "only preseason"?

I am familiar with KC Joyner "The Football Scientist" and I don't think I disagreee with anyone more than him. Attempting to quanitify nearly every aspect of the game with shaking premises does not make you a scientist.

A with a side order of D.

A, because you could see what they were trying to do... but just didnt quite execute. If the receivers had been in the right place on a couple of throws.. and hadnt dropped a couple of other ones.. we would be praising Carr's greatness right now.

D, because we dont play half as hard in preseason, or use half the playbook. I know we all want to make judgements based on preseason performance.. but you just cant. They arent playing to win.. (not really anyway) and when you arent playing to win.. you cant say whether or not someone is doing the right things to win games.

Why are the results the same in the regular season as the preseason?
Capers does not 'coach to win.' He coaches 'not to lose.'

huh? was there a regular season game that i missed?

And that old "coaches not to lose" thing.. that was the whine last year.. time to move on. Capers coaches to win.. he just doesnt coach to win by 5 touchdowns.. he coaches to win through defense and clock control.

If preseason is to evaluate players, how do you play 'half as hard' and
make the team? That's got to be tough on the coaches...

Grid

the players arent playing half as hard.. but the team iteself isnt playing to win.. that is where i get the "half as hard" statement.

Its preseason.. the point of preseason is just to get reps and work on rythme..and evaluate players. If it was a regular season game we would have spent hours studying tape to find out what about the Cowboys we can exploit.. we would have run different plays and probably wouldnt have taken certain risks.

We certainly wouldnt have done a mock 2 minute drill at the beggining of the second quarter.

You simply CANNOT judge a teams capabilities based on preseason performance.

I am going to say A. However I like the fact that carr had such a bad game and still we scored 10. Its good to know that on the worst day of our starting QB we can still make something happen.

seriously guys u need stop crying about one bad "preseason" game he has.
Carr is a wiked good player and imo he will have a breakout year this year and whoevers thinking we need a different QB your really dumb cuz again its 1 preseason game. And 1 more thing about carr his future is so bright i need the best pair of sunglasses just to think of it

None of the above. He will have bad halfs again. If he plays the whole game this way for 4 quarters, then, i will be concerned. If he plays several games this way during the regular season, then, i ask, do we resign him? The offense did not look ready to play, from the penalties, to bad passes, bad decisions, etc.
Coaches should have had this group ready to play.
