It's prolly been posted, if so delete it or forget that its here =p

Aug 6 Matt Winkeljohn, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson has caught more passes in his first 32 games (145) than the top five wide receivers in NFL history in their first 32. They are WRs Jerry Rice (135), Cris Carter (68), Tim Brown (61), Andre Reed (105) and Art Monk (114).

Anquan Boldin has caught even more (157) in fewer games (26).

True, Boldin came into this league like he was far from a rookie.

Took me too long to post (@ work!) but I was going to post Boldin's numbers as well. AJ is much better than Boldin but Boldin's unstoppable rookie year counts in the stats. Let's compare them and those elite receivers they keep getting compared to when they hit 5 years in the NFL.

This is an often quoted stat that means very little. The guys been playing for two years so really at this point anything can happen. I'm sure there's probably quite a few recievers who had better starts to their careers than Jerry Rice. I'm also sure some of them were out of the league by year 4.

Let's not Michael Clayton from the Bucs last year...

It's a nice stat and all but it's like the guy who starts the season at .500 the first two weeks and then projecting him to break all the records in baseball.

AJ's success in the 1st 2 seasons may not be a harbinger for a HOF career. But, his start suggests he's in good company. Here are the WRs who have more receptions that Jerry Rice's 135 in their 1st two seasons in the NFL:

Anquan Boldin - 157
Wayne Chrebet - 150
Randy Moss - 149
Gary Clark - 146
Andre Johnson - 145
Sterling Sharpe - 145
Issac Bruce - 140
Marvin Harrison - 137

Not a bad list to be on. Certainly no fly-by-night receivers. And when you consider that most WRs don't hit their stride until their 3rd or 4th seasons, you have to feel very, very good about Andre's prospects.

He gave andre his number to work out during the offseason on some tough hill.

I don't know if anybody else read the quotes from AJ's and Jerry conversation, but it seems that Rice is going to be show AJ how to work out in the offseason next year. If you want to read the whole story it is on the main website.

I read that. I guess Rice will be playing another season after this one? I hope so, even for the greedy, self serving reason that AJ will get to learn something from him.

or if Rice retires, he may just be AJ's personal trainer.

This is a nice stat to just talk about (especially considering his first 32 games are on a team that has never had a winning record!), but really, it doesn't mean a whole heckova' lot.

This season should be a huge year for both AJ and DC (along with a few other players) if we want to post a winning record. And give him a few more years before we can really take an objective comparison with the HoF greats.

Mechanics, schemanics, just imagine AJ playing on the 80's and 90's Niners.

Better yet Rice (in his prime) split out opposite of AJ.

Even the hardest critics on this message board couldnt find anything wrong with that...nevermind...someone would gripe about one getting more catches than other.
