Hey Texan fans,

I know that you all (or at least the majority) have a deep hatred toward the Jags. But I have a favor...

Over on the Jaguars MB, there is a petition, for the Mayor of Jacksonville to see, to help that much more to keep the team in Jacksonville. I would appreciate it if some of you all went over there (Under the 'Jaguars' section of message board) and sign it.

Thanks,

Fldvldog

....The petition that has been brought up is not a petition asking the Mayor to keep team in Jax.,.....It is actually a petition to the mayor of Jacksonville to stop using Wayne Weaver as a "scapegoat" for the city's financial overruns!

In a nutshell, when we had new advertising "ribbon boards" installed in Alltel, The city guaranteed Wayne Weaver all of the advertising income......Now, the Gator bowl association and the ACC championship game committee has a problem with it......The city itself is in the "red" due to some dumb mistakes....and now the city is trying to go back on their deal they made with Wayne Weaver.....The are going against the contract they signed. Wayne indicated that the Jags lost money 2 out o 3 years. Wayne sked that some of the Jaguars "rent" of Altell be pushed into future years in order to alleviate some of the financial burden on the organization. Wayne has even been willing to re-do the advertising contract to some extent (which he doesn't have to do)....yet the Mayor is choosing to take a "hard line" against Wayne. When the Jaguars are the best thing to happen to this city.

The petition was implemented to tell the mayor that his constituents aren't having this, and if he wants to see another term, then he needs to stop holding Wayne and the Jaguars hostage for the cities mistakes.

That's what the petition is about. We have other hurdles to jump being that we are in a small market. But this is just the tip of the iceberg, The mayor needs to do right by the Jags by making it financially feasible for the Wayne to stay in this market and not go under. The mayor is making that difficult by taking a hard-line against Wayne.

Just wanted to clarify......this is not a petition telling John Peyton "how much we love the jags"....It is basically telling him to stop screwing around and help the Jaguars out as they have done plenty to help this community.....

Jags fans! Man, did you come to the right board!! A huge majority of TEXAN fans have lived your nightmare! All I can say is GOOD LUCK, but MONEY TALKS!! Houston is a large NFL market, but we lost the Oilers anyway. Most of it due to disagreements between city government and old Bud! You can bet your sweet bunns that the NFL will be involved in this dispute. Nothing much any petition can do to stop the inevitable. I'm not saying Jacksonville will lose the team either, I'm just saying you all need to be prepared to have your football hearts broken! From a sentimental point of view, I hope that DOES NOT happen to any of you. BUT, IMHO, the fans of the Jags need to get their butts busy and PROVE to the mayor that you will support your team. The last I read, the Jags were having a horrible time selling season tickets. Fill up the stadium guys!! Show your loyalty! Might help, might not! But, like I said before, MONEY talks, so get busy, buy up those tickets!!!

"Just wanted to clarify......this is not a petition telling John Peyton "how much we love the jags"....It is basically telling him to stop screwing around and help the Jaguars out as they have done plenty to help this community.....

As you probably know the Oiler move to Tenn was due in large part to a feud between owner Bud Adams :howdy: and Bob Lanier the mayor of Houston at the time. :boxing:

Ironic that JVille was one of the cards in Bud Adams hand.

Weavers only leverage is a move to LA (or maybe a city wanting a team).
If your mayor doesn't care if the Jags leave or not the Jags fans will get ....... :BananaWav

It's all about the $$$$ .
Weaver will not stay in a losing position out of loyalty to the fans.

huh???

My understanding is that the petition the Jag fan is asking us to sign is located on one of the Jags MB's. I do not make it a priority to visit other teams MB's. I do not know how many sites the Jags have or what their "web address" is.
Am I missing something in the Jag fans request??..
I suppose I should have asked the originator of this thread for the link.
Didn't mean to confuse the issue. :dangit:

Never Mind I actually don't believe petitions are very successfull where $$$ is the issue. I am certain that Jags fans are in for a heartbreak. Been there....

Um, this might be taboo, but I'd like to see the Jags end up in LA. More exposure for the Texans. Better revenue stream for the league. Sorry, but I'll pass on the petition.

If the fans don't show up, you don't deserve a franchise.

Period,

Lions have sucked for 47 years, we still sell out our crappy team. Florida had enough trouble holding 2 teams as it was. Salary Cap = Expansion = Dillution of talent that is called parity which is a lie = Bad franchise that should never have been started = frequent team moving = pissed off fans = rich NFL

Wrong...nice try though. Go look at the league attendance numbers. We rank 14th in the league, and we ARE the smallest market!! We don't have Milwaulkee neighboring us like Green Bay does......And we've only been around 10 years! Go look at the numbers.

Not only that.....half of our population is military and transplants......so we are really working with about 450,000 native Jacksonvilians. I read a stat that to fill our oversized stadium 1 out of every 20 people in the city would have to go to the game, compared to a city like Detroit where only 1 out of 100 people would have to attend. So taking all that into consideration you can't compare Detroit and Jacksonville :dontknowa If we had the population of Detroit, we would also sell out every game easily.

And you should go back and read what the petition is about before commenting on it......The petition is not about "attendance" or "saving the Jags"....It is a notice to our Mayor to quit trying to screw Wayne Weaver out of money that was promised to him....Which is making hard for Weaver to turn a profit in such a small market.....Which has led Wayne to state that he cannot continue to lose money and some changes need to be made. :brickwall So your statement really holds no water........

Yeah....you can tell who are the true football fans, and NFL purists. The ones who were once Oiler fans that felt the pain and heartbreak associated with a team moving and wouldn't wish that on anyone.......

then there is the "come along lately" crowd who really can't relate
** see "TirdEye" and "Gcolby".

Thanks to the Texans fans who "know what it feels like" and wouldn't wish a team moving on anybody. :)

#1, you are not the smallest market in the country. And the popluation in Jax goes up, while the attendance goes down. Even while the team is a playoff team. 10,000 seats being black tarped out, all but 2 home games being blacked out. Jax is IN FLORIDA, which is one of the biggest population centers in the country, also one of the most condensed. 80 mile radius around that stadium you have millions upon millions of uncarring people. Orlando is a short drive away. Jax is south of Georgia, no one there cares about football, the 3rd team in a state with 2 other teams that have enough trouble getting thier fans to show up. So no one cares about them there either.

#2, so we are really working with about 450,000 native Jacksonvilians
I read a stat that to fill our oversized stadium 1 out of every 20 people in the city would have to go to the game, compared to a city like Detroit where only 1 out of 100 people would have to attend.

Detroit has a native population of about 900,000. how do you turn that into 1 out of 100? Also, I would bet the quality of life in jax is a little higher than it is in native Detroit. Detroit has more fans outside of the city limits. But not even close to the population center right by your team.

#3It is a notice to our Mayor to quit trying to screw Wayne Weaver out of money that was promised to him....Which is making hard for Weaver to turn a profit in such a small market.....Which has led Wayne to state that he cannot continue to lose money and some changes need to be made. :brickwall So your statement really holds no water.

The NFL is a license to print money, the dispute is over advertising inside of the stadium. If Wayne Weaver gets that money, who do you think it benifits? You? Atleast if the city gets it you have the slightest chance to ever see it again. Why would you side with the owner of a football team about money that should be going into your schools. Even the Arizona Cardinals can make money. IF Wayne Weaver is crying broke he shouldn't be running a team in the NFL. If he is unhappy now, it's because of greed.

#4. The Jaguars ranked 13th. with a 16 thousand per game boost. It took 16 thousand more people per game to get to 13th. How much of that is because the superbowl was being held in the city that year though? Do we expect that 10 thousand seat tarp to expand to 20,000 in 2005?
I do.

#5. Even if Weaver gets his electronic advertising in the stadium, that isn't going to change the apathetic attitude of Floridians and Jags Football

#6. Even Tampa hasn't dipped past 60,000 per game range since 1996, Miami has flirted with the 73,000 range for years. in 2003 Jax was at 53,000 which is WELL short of the capacity for that stadium (without seat tarp). Something the 13th ranking spot doesn't take into effect, not every team has the same capacity as attel stadium. The Teams above Jax in that ranking are selling out, the teams below are selling out. Jax never sells out.

The Jags are in a doomed spot, and they should move, move to California where no one will care about them either.
THE NFL expansion reached 2 teams too many.
My statements hold plently of water.
