As with all of Greg's stuff, gotta read it to get the context.

Peshek: Sack Study 1.0 (http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46337/349/peshek-sack-study-10)
Outside of quarterbacks, pass rushers provide the largest wealth of data in regards to play metrics. Given the importance of pass rushers it’s a real boon that we’re able to extrapolate so much from on the field play. In this piece I’ve analyzed every sack and broken down into its component parts to see how and why it came about. This can gives us a feeling for each pass rushers’ strengths and potential weaknesses.

These are charted from the 2013 game-play and every sack for each player. I weeded out some sacks that were misattributed or were accumulated by overzealous stats-keepers (forced throwaways, etc). In this study, I’ve included Jadeveon Clowney’s 2012 and 2013 seasons. His 2013 season only consisted of 3 sacks, but I couldn’t leave out a top 5 draft pick. Take a look at his 2013 numbers, but realize that small sample size is in play here. Of course these numbers aren’t meant to be predictive, but rather to complement what you see on film...

I had to leave two guys out of the study for sake of brevity. Chris Smith's sack time was 4.18 seconds and Jackson Jeffcoat's was 3.97

It's kinda hard to get anything useful out of 2013 Clowney when he only had 3 sacks. 2012 Clowney is much more useful, since there are a lot more sacks available.

Dee Ford's 4.26 average time to sack sticks out. That's a long time in the NFL, and ought to make you think twice about his capability. Not that he can't improve it later, but that his numbers aren't as good as they appear.

I think Ealy and Martin are very underrated in this class.

A lot of people are going to disagree with me but I have Ealy at #10 and Martin at #33 on my board.

Been talking about martin for awhile. I think he's better suited to gain 20lbs and be a 5 tech. I even think marftin will be there in the 3rd rd. I wish he do one with marcus smith in it.

Not me. I've had early top ten for awhile.

Great find. Since I'm currently liking Mack as our first pick, it's a good comparison to the other regarded rushers.

ealy will surely go early :kitten:
but in all seriousness, i think he might end up going top 10, maybe a strong candidate if we happen to trade down.

Peshek: Edge Rushers 2.0 (http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46981/349/peshek-edge-rushers-20)
When looking at metrics for pass rushers or any position group, itís easy to get hung up one number that we think is predictive. Maybe that stat is 40 time for WRs, pass rush rate for edge rushers, completion percentage for QBs, but itís rarely every that simple. This piece provides a number of different metrics to help complement what you see on film and paint a more illuminating picture of these draft prospects. It may not yield a definitive answer on who is the best pass rusher between Kony Ealy, Dee Ford, Jeremiah Attaochu or Khalil Mack, but hopefully it can provoke some thought.

Putting together pass rush efficiency required me to go through and chart every snap where the players rushed the QB. Some sack totals may not line up with whatís listed as Iíve added and subtracted sacks I felt were mistakenly attributed. As always, use this as a complement to examining film rather than in its stead.

Not a great showing for Mack, but Attachao is looking better and better.

Attaochu is very intriguing... has most of the tools, just needs to refine & apply.

Note: Attaochu played under a new DC this year (Ted Roof). Roof implemented a new system and change Attaochi position from OLB to DE. As a result Attaochu initially was less effective and his production dropped. After a few games Roof moved Attaochu back to OLB and later he lined up at both positions and the production returned. Attaochu's 2013 #s were down from his 2012 #s because of the early change.

It would have been nice to see Aaron Donald in the mix.

As an edge rusher? :p I think Donald is in one of those other articles they link at the beginning, however.

Not so much as an edge rusher, just how his sacks would measure up against the rest.

I probably should request to merge these: http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104528
