Rick Smith's desperate attempt at saving his job.

He's doing a poor job if he's counting on Thomas. Maybe Bill has told him he's a guy he's coached against and likes. Who knows what we do and why we do it at this point. We are the team that passed on Peyton Freaking Manning afterall.

This is a FUTURES contract.

This is like... nothing. A non-story. We'll probably sign another 8-9 of these guys and then we might not even take them to the OTAs.

How odd.

Before a new coach is on board and in a position of strength (relatively).

Actually signed 5-6 more with Thomas, but I sort of enjoy the silly overreaction from the "news"

This. All it means is that he will go into camp with the team next year. Still going to have to beat some guys out to make the final roster.

I hate to say this, but the Texans need to be rid of Larry Kirksey. I know he has an extremely good resume'; still, like Marchiano - yet not as overt - Kirksey has been going downhill. Our WR corps is talented but underdeveloped. Now, while I realize much of that has to do with the previous system, I'm sick of seeing no-name WRs on other teams, like Patriots and Bengals get coached up to be world beaters, while every one of our guys just sort of meander around. In the WR world, it just seems unlikely that every other team in the league has drafted better.

Kirksey is a start at giving our young flankers a new perspective.

My reaction isn't more or less about the signing of a player, but the signing of Thomas. He was traded for midseason by the Lions, caught 5 passes in 9 games, and then didn't make it through training camp. Understand this is likely training camp fodder, but is he even good enough to be that at this point?

LOL you might want to relay that to Cak. He tries to get cute with them all the time.

He's pretty much the definition of camp fodder so, yes?

Possible WR/Punt returner. Maybe Keyshawn was Gary's guy & Rick is trying to "fix" that.

We're gonna have a lot of QB's in camp this year. They're going to need some guys to throw to (or "at" depending on how well those guys can catch).

Mike won't make it out of camp and if he does then that just tells us all exactly how **** Keyshawn Martin & Lestar Jean are
.

Setting aside the joking and the fact that this is a nothing contract, does anyone know what happened to this guy? He had 66 catches for 820 yards his second season (year of the Hail Mary, I believe), and then just kind of fell off. He's still young, and it's not like this offense couldn't use a guy with those capabilities. Kevin Walter's best years were 65 for 800 and 60 for 899. Nuk just caught 52 balls for 802.

But hey, if he's done, he's done. Was just curious what happened to him.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2009−2012)
Detroit Lions (2012)
Arizona Cardinals (2013)*

Considering his resume, he's probably confused as heck...

Can he tackle? I'd love to see a 4.34 safety... but only if he can tackle.

Eh, he's not a great tackler, but I'd take him over the crap we have at safety at TAMU right now. He wasn't a starter but got a lot of PT and did decently. His biggest role was as KR and PR iirc
