View Full Version : Preparing for the Colts

It's funny to look at the points per game scored by offenses vs. the points per game given up by the defenses.

Points per game given up by the Texans................27.7
Points per game scored by the Colts......................26.7

Points per game scored by the Texans...................17.4
Points per game given up by the Colts...................18.7

Notice the "coincidental" inverse relationship?

If I'm not mistaken 10 ppg that we gave up was due to turnovers whether directly or indirectly(and that 27.7 included pick 6's). So if we don't turn the ball over that number would likely be much smaller than 28 ppg (and our offensive number might be a bit higher as well).

Indy put up 27 on the 49ers, 34 on Seattle, & 39 on Denver. Solid production against three strong defenses. Let's hope the Wayne injury slows them down a bit.

Teams have been gashing us with the run with Cushing in the lineup. It says something when we are 27th against the run. That's why we are #1 against the pass we know this pass defense isn't good and the run defense has to be pretty bad for teams not to throw it on us like they have in the past.

Denver's D has not been strong - 27th on yds, 30th passing, 6th rushing (everybody is passing to catch up) and 26th on points.

I doubt it. Trent Richardson has played like ****.

Colts have not shown a strong rush offense, and we have shown a pitiful run defense. With Luck, we can't afford to stack the D against the run, especially with Manning with a broken leg on IR and Ed Reed on his last leg on the field.

Would be rather sad if it was our defense that is used to jump start his career since he's done little to nothing thus far. But with the way our run defense has been lately...

With the weather today being as bad as it is, I hope that this is not going to act as the "contact" practice of the week. Because it will probably be done inside where probably 1/2 the team as per historic "protocol" won't be allowed to participate due to injury concerns.:toropalm:

I was listening to Mike & Mike this morning. They were talking about the impact of the Colts losing Reggie Wayne. They brought up some statistics about Andrew Luck's production. Wayne has only not played 132 snaps while Luck has been QB.

With Wayne:
69 QBR, 57% Completion Percentage

Without Wayne:
16 QBR, 24% Completion Percentage

Reasons for optimism!

Losing Wayne was huge for them. He's like the only receiver they have that consistently makes tough catches in tight coverage.

9 INTs on 22 attempts is a little concerning, especially considering that he only threw 7 incomplete passes... The guy must really suck if he can throw 2 picks on one pass. OTOH, 8 TDs on 15 completions is out of this world. I'm so torn.

Some Luck facts.

Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock 10h

Andrew Luck is 8th among QBs in rushing yards. Alex Smith 5th.

Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock 10h

Andrew Luck has completed less than 60% of his passes in 3 of 7 games w/ Reggie Wayne. He's only thrown for over 230 yds twice in '13.

Yeah. It might be a tad bit risky putting a run run run type of game plan in place with the current state of the Texans running backs. Is also risky overloading the passing game due to the current state of the oline.

Too bad these games are played on the field rather than on paper. The risks are harder to ignore there.

Even though WR isn't a priority,

Hilton is really good and would've looked in a Texans uni. He was drafted in 3rd rd.

Too bad the Texans like to draft the likes of Montgomery, Brandon Harris, Caldwell,Slaton/Molden,JJ etc.... They did hit on Brooks, sort of Mitchell, and hopefully Posey. But there's no doubt why this team lacks depth and has to start the Newton/Mayes etc....

I think we've found the root of the Texans problems. Meanwhile the Grigson as a rookie GM is picking the likes of Allen/Hilton,Ballard,Chapman/Brazill inthe 3rd rd or later.

Grigson isn't messing around he's taking risks by trading for Guys like Richardson/Vontae Davis. Why? Because he knows he can draft talent like Hilton later in the draft. I know it appears that he missed on Richarsdson, but he hit on Davis and for the price of a 2nd rd pick he got a shutdown corner. If the Texans dont stop picking the likes of Montgomery, Williams in the 3rd rd or later, they are going to fall further behind the Colts every yr.

Agreed. I'm not saying we have to run, run, pass. I'm saying like the Tennessee game, it wasn't run heavy, but there was enough to keep KC guessing. Even when we ran the ball, Tate wasn't doing a whole lot, but we were able to keep Case clean & he was able to make some plays.

Once the threat of the running game went away.... they pinned their ears back, overloaded our lines, & we had no one to pick up the blitz.

This doesn't compute. The year the Colts took Hilton in the third, we took Brooks & Posey.... both before Hilton (from Florida International). Then we took Keyshawn Martin & Crick in the 4th.

I like Hilton, but I don't see Posey & Martin as worse picks. We may have mismanaged or under-utilized them since we drafted them, but right now, they're roughly the same, talent-wise.

The only reason we're behind the Colts now, is because our QB caught a case of the yips. Rick Smith's done a fine job of making this team talented enough to compete with any team.
