that the two main concerns with our squad AS IS, are the O-Line and OLB pass rush?

Well, the Oline goes from average to BAD immediately w/ out D Brown, and our OLB pass rush may be non existent all year im afraid.

Unless these areas improve its going to define our season this year. We are too fragile at QB and secondary, and we have to mask this as best we can w Strong Oline and pass rush.

No doubt about it. But in regards to the team and QB we actually have and for what THIS season is worth... The Oline and pass rush have to improve for us to even have a chance. All is not lost if we can fix these areas. Meaning D Brown comes back and gains pro bowl form, rest of oline gels, and for crying outloud somebody steps up at the OLB positon.

Alot to ask right now.

Schaub is the lynchpin to all this. Wades D is high risk/ high reward. Works best when your offense can score points and not give them to the opponents D every game.

I don't remember saying we were lucky. I do remember pointing out flaws that would later come back to bite us in the ass. Poor outside pass rush, lulls I'm offensive production.

If I had to bet right now and my choices were texans sweep colts or colts sweep texans, I'm taking the colts.

I just have 0 faith in this team to do what we want them to do.

It's fine to look on the bright side too though. Me, I'm just saying how I feel like most here. And what I feel is that this team is stuck in neutral and pretty soon will start rolling backwards.

I agree 100% with Derrick ward in that Schaub is not the guy. I think we need a change there. I just don't feel it with Matt. Along with some other tangible things. I don't think that deep down everyone with the team has confidence in him either. They'll say it publicly, but I see it. They know that if the other team steps their game up Matt doesn't have another level to take his game to. They can only wish and hope one of his floaters is snagged out of the air by a receiver making a play. Or we call a screen pass that works to perfection and nets a big gain.

Matt is about as mediocre as they come. Not terrible enough to where he's a glaring blemish, but not good enough to where you see greatness in his play. You have to search the stat book to tell me why Matt is a good qb.

When we get rid of Matt I'd be more interested in the other problems. Until that time, I think we are just spinning our wheels. Every team is going to have holes in the damn. We just can't afford to have a qb that creates more holes and isn't good enough to cover any others up.

I still think that Schaub's successor is on the team right now. I was very impressed with Yates and Keenum in PS. They both possess very good accuracy, know the system and are much more mobile than Schaub. Maybe a mobile QB who can create on a broken play would allow Kubiak to be more willing to trust his QB to make those plays rather than shackling him to throwing the ball away or assuming the fetal position.

Reed can set the edge but we get zero pass rush outta him. Put him inside next year. It's unfortunate plan b and c failed at right tackle (q and b williams) because Newton is jag. Schaub wasn't miserable today but he was behind on a lot of throws limiting yac opportunities. Dude really needs a clean pocket and rhythm to play well and he's not getting either. Penalties were embarrassing. I really dont give a damn if the birds had a bunch to...that's on the coaching staff.

Im not to upset with the d. 14 points off an int and special teams isn't their fault. I will say cush looks good moving forward or backwards but his lateral movement is not what it was and i've seen some embarassing moments recently. Regardless, we're not going to win many games off 9 points. Pretty sad kubes. Other guys I want to see upgraded (excluding the obvious ol and olb problems) are brice mccain and kmart. McCain is the guy i'd target all day as long as he's on the field. Kmart provides zero yac potential and i'd like someone with honest big play potential in the slot. It's unfortunate he gets so much more playing time then posey (no, I didnt forget about his injury so skip it.)

Consider what happens when we try to throw deep:

A. Schaub underthrows the ball
B. Schaub doesn't have time due to a leaky ol
C. Every deep ball looks contested (aj and dhop do a good job of fighting like hell for the ball in the air, but do you ever see them flat out run someone?)
D. When we do have someone wide open it's a scheme/blown assignment on say a play fake...it's not "our talent beat your talent."

Don't mean to harp on the deep ball because it's not even our biggest problem...it just contributes to our run game issues which defenses seem to be figuring out. They play sound gap discipline and use the sideline as a 12th defender. Foster HAS lost a step...or at least he's not in season form because of the preseason lay off.

2 yard stretch plays and 3-4 yard curl routes aren't gonna get it done. To top it off we go comatose in the redzone. We absolutely dominated the first quarter. Field position. Yards. Time of possession. None of that means **** with penalties, turnovers, special team scores, and Randy Bullock as your primary scoring option. Pretty pathetic for 3 quarters today.

My 3 game mvp is Lechler.

I don't think anyone expected the Colts to go to SF & stymie the 49ers. We didn't expect our Texans to either, but now the pressure is on to at least get a W.

Watching how the 49ers played against the Colts, you'd think someone would think we've got a chance. Unfortunately, I doubt we can find 53 people who do.

I agree 100% with Derrick ward in that Schaub is not the guy. I think we need a change there. I just don't feel it with Matt. Along with some other tangible things. I don't think that deep down everyone with the team has confidence in him either. They'll say it publicly, but I see it.

The homers here will say it never happened, but I thought I saw a spark when Tj took over in 2011. A spark in the team. Not that I think the team thought he was better, or would rather Tj over Schaub... but like you I think we're all ready for a change.

Matt is about as mediocre as they come. Not terrible enough to where he's a glaring blemish, but not good enough to where you see greatness in his play. You have to search the stat book to tell me why Matt is a good qb.

I think we're too focused on the QB. I believe "It's a QB league" is over-played. Even the best QBs will lose a game every now & then. No running game, look what happened to Green Bay yesterday. It's been happening to Romo for the last 5 years or so. No defense... Kaepernick can look human. Your play makers aren't making plays... look back at how mediocre Brady looked against Baltimore in the AFC Championship game.

The big difference between those guys & Schaub, is that they'll win a game for their team more frequently than Matt will. Roethlisberger & Eli "should" be in that group as well, but they're faced with more problems right now than they can overcome.

We won 10 games in 2011 & would have won more had Schaub stayed healthy. We won 12 games in 2012 with a gimp in December. This is our team & while I will agree Schaub isn't pushing us forward, he's not holding us back.

If it's 4th & 2 and my HC has no confidence in running the ball with either back, that tells me our problem is not our QB. This is a team. Teams win games. Teams win Division Titles, teams win Championships.

So yeah, I like Cushing & Watt & Jjo, etc... but when we needed them to get the Ravens off the field, it didn't happen. Doesn't matter how we got in the situation we were in.

When we needed Arian or Tate to pick up a first down, it didn't happen near as often as it should have. If we need Andre, or DeAndre to make a play & pick up 2 yards on 3rd down..... didn't happen. The QB picked up 4, the play maker needs to pick up 2.

I'm not asking for everything to go right, just asking for more than what we got, from the whole team.

Since all of the people you say know that Matt Schaub isn't the answer passed up Peyton Manning for a million excuses that dont make any sense when you truly understand the nfl is a quarterbacks league. The answer NOW is you gotta give Yates and Keenum a chance. I believe Keenum would succeed in this offense. The running lane is wide open for a qb in this offense and once the threat of that is established... it makes it easier for the qb to hit an open receiver, tide end or running back. However the texans don't want to let Keenum run with the starters. I've seen Yates but NONE OF US have seen Keenum with the ones so I don't want to hear no BS about he wouldn't play better than Schaub.

So what you're saying is the Texans need to do everything in their power to get a QB in next yrs draft? I realize that when Schaub signed that extention the Texans org married its self to Schaub. But the team needs to find out if TJ/Case are the future, because it's obvious that Schaub isn't the future.

I get that Gary is giving himself the best chance to win now using Schaub, but it will be his downfall in the longrun. If BoB decides to hold him accountable. Which using history as a barometer Gary will not be held accountable for the state of the franchise.

I equate Gary to Mack Browns situation. They are both great guys, but are slightly above avg at their jobs. Mack kept Greg Davis around long after he should've been fired and it looks like Mack will be fired after this yr. Joe Marciano is to Gary what Davis was to Brown. If BoB were to expecting to put the best product possible on the field.

Why do you think that Gary continues to keep Coach Joe around after all of these yrs of suckitude?

Make more cuts. Make trades for draft picks. Mold the team around a great or good qb versus a defense or a great running game. You do what you got to do to win super bowls bottom line. There is a reason a houston football team has not been to a super bowl let alone win one.

Schaub's inconsistency is the biggest problem. For example, how many touchdowns did he throw yesterday? Stats are really deceiving. Manning, brady, Flacco, Big Ben and Rodgers have super bowls and Schaub hasn't been to the afc championship game... that's the stat that's matters.

Exactly Schaub homers love to pull up stats that deceptively make Schaub look good but his stats against the contending teams in the nfl are piss poor at best. That's Schaub good to great when it matters less and below average when it matters most.

4th best RZ efficiency in the league. But, by all means, don't let that disrupt the narrative....

That really has nothing to do with what Vinny was saying. Going into yesterday's game, the Texans were 7 of 7 in the red zone. That's awesome. But how many possessions did they have total? IOW, how many times did they move it between the 20s and then settle for a FG or a punt? They're about middle of the pack in scoring, and that's with having such a high percentage of TDs in their red zone trips. That says they aren't getting into the red zone enough.

IOW, they move it between the 20s.

Make more cuts. Make trades for draft picks. Mold the team around a great or good qb versus a defense or a great running game. You do what you got to do to win super bowls bottom line. There is a reason a houston football team has not been to a super bowl let alone win one.

Yeah lets cut super star playersn trade off more so we have manning with no weapons around him on offense, and then our defense would suffer as well cause we would have to make cuts and trades there as well. And then manning would come to a team with virtually all talent and weapons gone.

He is not young enough for us to build this team around him through the draft, terrible terrible idea.

9 pts against a defense that Peyton made look like school children. But I guess that those 3 fg's count as a positive rz appearance.

They did do very well against the little sisters of the poor in the first two games of the season though.

This team has peaked under Gary/Matt. IMHO It's time to move on, because everyday they dont is another day wasted, if winning a Lombardi is truly BoB's ultimate goal.

Dont let me interupt your stats driven drivel.

Haha 2-1 and you want to blow up the team. What an absolutely idiotic thing to say. :vincepalm:

Perhaps we should get a tough minded arse-chewing coach in like Rex Ryan or Mike Tomlin, huh?

Schaub's inconsistency is the biggest problem. For example, how many touchdowns did he throw yesterday? Stats are really deceiving. Manning, brady, Flacco, Big Ben and Rodgers have super bowls and Schaub hasn't been to the afc championship game... that's the stat that's matters.

I would like matt to toss Tds every game but it doenst always happen. Rodgers threw 2 shutouts last year, flacco blanked yesterday and 3 times last year. It does happen more often with Matt but then again he isnt elite

We would still be a good team the texans wouldn't have to get rid of all their pro bowlers. Building a team around Manning is a better idea than what they are doing now unless they get rid of Schaub somehow which they won't do. Manning can make average players good and good players great right now. Bottom line is Manning is not here and Schaub is and he won't get us to the super bowl but Manning has a better chance leading his team there. There is a reason a houston football team has never been to the super bowl they just aren't unlucky they are boneheaded and stubborn. We must overcome this conservative way of thinking and catch up to the current ways of winning it all.

Flacco was missing Jacoby Jones and Ray Rice yesterday knowing that should make you feel as sick as I am feeling. Schaub has all these weapons and still fails WOW.

They need to address the OL. Schaub has been blasted throughout the first 3 games.

Newton has 4 holding calls in 3 games, and he sucks so bad that he still lets Schaub get hit/sacked when he holds.

W.Smith is just as bad as Newton right now as he has managed to completely wiff players lined up directly over him. He completely wiffed on Nagta, whom sack Matt.

Our pass pro has been suspect with a D. Brown in the lineup this year and it was even more-so with him out. We struggled to hold the edges and and didn't provide Matt any room to step up.

Queensbury and B. Williams going to IR really set the offense back.

Assuming D.Brown is out a few more games, and that sample doesn't skew my opinion of Harris, I would move Harris to RT when D.Brown returns. He may not move people in the running game like Newton, but he is a better pass protector. I dont know what we do at G, Wade Smith is not getting it done.

Having said all that Schaub has got to stop throwing the horrible ints. Two weeks in a row he throws a pick 6 on just really bad throws. I don't put the tipped ints on him but holy smokes the two pick 6's should have never happened.

Defensively we are playing fine, the Ravens got a few bogus PI calls but otherwise they gave up 16 points on the road to the Super-Bowl champs.

What about joe's 3 last year? Do have excuses for everyone else?

That qb proved himself in the playoffs last year and afterwards got paid for it unlike what happened to Schaub here. No excuses needed. It's bad to have no tds in a game but to also throw a pick 6 as well is horrible. Schaub's decisions actually loses games on a much higher degree than Flacco or any other qb on a contending team you want to compare Schaub to.

So your excuse for 3 his shutouts is a Super Bowl? It would seem that make zero sense as they are very separate events and tossing shutouts certainly didn't help him win the last game
