All 22 in HD is a thing of beauty.

Oh my...Derek Newton...

That was part of the reason for the rotations we saw at Guard last year.

The first couple of shots of Newton didn't concern me as much as the author. Especially not when Duane was getting beat on the other side... Newton actually looked good in comparison.

But by the time of those 4th qtr shots..... yeah, Newton should have come out of the game.

I'm not a student of the game like some of the posters here. I can't break down game film or blocking assignments.

But that backpedal was pretty ugly.

Agreed. What confused me, was that he was talking about the backpedal in the first couple of gifs..... & though he had balance issues, I didn't think he was backpedaling.

Those showing Newton in the 4th... no mistaking the backpedal there.

The backpedal is used in the vertical passs setting technique.

Didn't watch the videos, but I can tell you I have not been a Newton fan since ... well, probably ever. I really don't see the guy ever becoming a good OT. I know some of y'all disagree, and that's fine. It's everyone's prerogative to be wrong. He's terrible.

Actually, I agree with all the takes at the link, even the random notes.

I have never seen an offensive tackle be successful by back pedaling. If you cannot kick slide fast enough to keep up with a 7 technique on the edge, then you have no business being in the league.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the actual answer.

By no mean do I imply that Newton is a good RT; we can always use an upgrade.
