I'm watching the Titans game right now on game rewind. Just a few opinions...

Jake Locker has some serious accuracy issues. Hits big plays then just leaves you scratching your head the next few downs. Dunno if the tits see him as the future or JAG, but I think he's hit his ceiling. Blitzing every other down will probably be more effective than it was against the bolts. Which brings me to...

Chance Warmack: I really liked him coming out of the draft, he seems to be a mixed bag as of right now. Stretch or guard pulling plays leave a lot to be desired, seems to be a lack of communication with his RT because he is quite often looking around in the second level to block someone and disengages too soon. Didn't key in on him every play but watched on most rewinding a few times.

Pass protection seems good enough but we'll have to see what the likes of JJ Watt does to him. I'm thinking he gets the short end of that stick.

Chris Johnson seems to be a bit more patient this year. Still odd vision, but appears to be trusting his o-line more.

Jurrell Casey had a pretty solid game, might make pounding the rock a bit hard.

Their LB core is very quick but I think dropping Zach Brown into coverage against OD is going to be a mismatch to be exploited. If we can get them to bite on the play action there will be a ton of big chunks there, using their speed to our advantage. If not, might be a tough day of running.

I thought Greg Williams was banned from the NFL for life..

Nope, and I did NOT support this hire. I wanted him gone from the NFL for life. I don't for a minute condone this, and am not shocked Bud Adams went for him. Comfort factor plus the ring, two things the old coot wants.

They STILL have no answer for AJ. With Williams love of the blitz it's gonna expose their back end big time. I think Arian has a big game. Blitzing fast OLBs will be so far up the field Foster will have big holes.

On D Bulls are looking to redeem them selfs.
Let me see reigning DPOTY all pro JJ Watt vs a rookies 2nd pro game? Yeah I'll take Watt. They obviously will try to expose McCain (duh). With Smith back It will add more up front pressure witch will lead to at least 1 pick. Mays looked really good on the run, and we know tittans will try and establish the run.

Kubiak says he needs to check with the league because if that was the wrong call in San Diego, then he's unclear on the rule. #Texans

Smith (on his suspension): I can't put me or my team in that situation again.

Antonio (on showing up to practice today): I never thought I'd be this happy coming to work. I was excited.

Antonio: Not being around "the boys" while they prepared was more torturous than watching the game. Did what I could to ease my mind.

Smith on SD: That first play lit their team up. Played perfect football for 2 1/4 quarters. Then Texans team he knew, emerged and took over.

Smith watched the game at home with family & friends. After pick-6, jumped up and yelled, "There you go purple Cush!" lol

Antonio Smith: Drove from Richmond, TX to greet teammates at the stadium when they arrived from San Diego.

Schaub (on Andre Johnson getting open and making big plays): What he does out there, he makes it look so routine.

Schaub: We tried to simulate in practice as best as we can having guys break off their routes and come back for the ball.

Watt remembered how Cush jumped on his head to celebrate after his pick-6 vs CIN. Wanted to jump on Cush's head but didn't per league rule.

Watt (on Cushing): You couldn't be happier, knowing what he's been through in the last year. Was one of the defining moments of his return.

Watt (on Reed's bday present, a walker): We all got a pretty good kick out of it. Ed's a good guy who knows how to take a joke.

Watt (on SD): I played a lot better in the 2nd half than the first. I like to put up better #s but we got the win which is what matters.

Watt (on Antonio Smith): I'm excited to have him back out there and to play next to him.

DBs get Ed Reed a walker for his birthday today. "It moves pretty well," he jokes. Also got him a cake with HoF jacket.
Dale Robertson ‏@sportywineguy
Playing football, I'm going to be me." But he won't be baited into situations" like the one that led to suspension. #Texans

Rule changes "are getting outrageous," he said. #Texans

I'm not going to change how I play the game. How I play the game is how it should be played. With passion. With heart." #Texans

Smith on his previous infractions: "Majority of those penalties just playing football." #Texans

Smith: "Happiest I've ever been going to work (meaning practice)." #Texans

Smith: I'm in the best shape I've ever been in." #Texans

Layoff: "Weird and stressful." He went to Oklahoma and rode his horses, worked out. #Texans

"I'm going to be me, the fun I bring," against Titans Sunday. #Titans

He watched the game with friends and served his own "delicious" barbeque. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork. Bread pudding. #Texans

vanilla ice is a legend.

10x better than that emo eminem.

Ice Ice Baby craps on any eminem song.

I'm hoping that post was a joke. The song "Rock Bottom" from the Slim Shady LP is 1000 times better than anything "Robbie Vanwinkle" has ever done or will ever do. Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers) actually grew up in the hood, CAN rap, and his albums were produced by rap pioneer Dr. Dre. Vanilla Ice (Robbie Van Winkle) is some Rich kid from Dallas who decided he wanted to rap so he got a bunch of brothas to stand behind him while he did so. You're not comparing apples and oranges my friend you're comparing a 65 GTO to a Ford Festiva with a bad transmission.

Kubiak: Darryl Sharpton should be cleared through concussion protocol this afternoon. "He's fine." #Texans

Kubiak: Shioh Keo will start at FS again. #Texans

Kubiak: Ed Reed took a little more than he did this day last week with pads on. Likely a game-time decision. #Texans
Tania Ganguli ‏@taniaganguli
After giving up that TD drive to open the 2nd half, the #Texans defense gave up 10 yards the rest of the game.

"I haven't been around a team that's played that well for that many series," Wade Phillips on his defense to end Mon's game. #Texans

Phillips gives Mercilus some credit for Cushing's INT. Says was a great read by Cushing, but Rivers was in jam because of Mercilus's pressure. #Texans

"I stopped crying and I said we've gotta get going," Wade Phillips on what changed after the 1st Chargers drive of the 3rd quarter.

"Smart players get better. He needed to get stronger, he knew that. Now he's got real strength." Wade Phillips on Mercilus #Texans

Kubiak says J.J. Watt and Owen Daniels are on the injury report for regular wear and tear things. Nothing truly concerning. #Texans

Reed wouldn't start right away, would be a package guy. Shiloh Keo will start this week again. #Texans

Kubiak says Ed Reed took a little more today than he did this day last week. Still day to day. #Texans
Deepi Sidhu ‏@DeepSlant
Phillips on Cushing's pick-6 play: It was actually the zone blitz they ran on us the first play of game.

Phillips on 2nd half vs SD: We stuffed the run game better, got SD into 3rd and long situations, and had success with zone defense.

Phillips: Watt had "quite a bit" of attention and double teams but still managed to get hits on Rivers.

Phillips on Cushing's performance in his first game back: Surprised by Cush? No. We expect a lot from him.

Wade Phillips: Mercilus played really fast in the game vs. pass and rush. Very explosive. "I thought he had an outstanding game."

Kubiak: We can always let Matt Schaub use the muddle huddle to speed up the tempo of offense early in the game, if needed.

Kubiak: Strength of Titans offense is the pass rush. Need to run the ball more and better this week.
Dale Robertson ‏@sportywineguy

Sharpton practiced today and will carry a full load at LB Sunday.

Just that the defense was playing poorly, had some near misses, given up 4 TD passes. He wasn't a happy camper at that point.

Reed: "I want to play but I've got to be smart. I'm a team player and I'll do whatever my coaches want me to do."

Ed Reed "Work went well today. I feel much better this week. I'm still breaking up scar tissue (in hip). I always prepare to play."

Texans Quotes: September 12

Head Coach Gary Kubiak
Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips
WR Andre Johnson
FS Ed Reed (http://www.houstontexans.com/news/article-2/Texans-Quotes-September-12/ad83e0fd-16c0-47b8-a537-0362f364accb)

FS Ed Reed (excerpts)
(on SS Danieal Manning’s walker birthday present to him yesterday) “Man, it was awesome. It was awesome. It actually brought me back to college when I had to go in and spend some time at an elderly home. Yeah, they wrote an article about it, honestly. It brought me back to that time because, when you turn 35 and you have a birthday, it makes your reflect, just reflecting. I thought about it last night and those guys are a class act here. I’ve said that from day one. They took me with open arms. For them to give me a cake and a present like that goes to show you. It’s a dip machine. We do dips in the DB (defensive backs) room on it now because it raises up. It’s a dip machine. We work out on it.”

(on being fired up on the sidelines on Monday and if it was hard watching) “No, I’ve been there before. It’s different when you’re on the sideline, you get to see it a little bit more. I’m a player and a coach at heart too. I understood my role. I was still part of the team and still had to make sure I encouraged those guys. I let them know what I saw on the sideline and communicated with them what was working, what I thought was working as a secondary-wise, and what we should be doing from a disguise standpoint. We gave (QB Philip) Rivers a lot of different looks in the second half and we thought we confused him a little bit and it helped us out to be successful. I understood my role.”

(on working with FS Shiloh Keo on and off the field) “that’s what it takes to be a successful team. You’ve got to be unselfish and I pray to be unselfish. That was something that (General Manager) Rick Smith talked to me about when he was recruiting me to come here. Like I said, these are my boys. They’re really took me with open arms. It wouldn’t be any different if I was anywhere else. Guys in Baltimore would tell you you’re supposed to pass that knowledge. You’re supposed to pass it. I couldn’t put it any other way, you’re supposed to give that knowledge away.”

(on watching the defense in the first game and if he saw what he wanted to see) “I was so excited just watching these guys and watching them get after the ball, and encouraging them on the sideline. I don’t know if you all got it, but I was on the oxygen tank a couple of times. I was screaming. My voice is coming back to me. I usually get oxygen when I’m playing, but when you’re on the sideline and you’re encouraging guys, running up and down the sideline, doing work on offense and encouraging the guys on offense and defense, it’s a little bit of a toll on you. It’s part of it. I understand my role when I’m on the sideline like that. I understand my player. When you’re a player that’s in the game, it’s totally different.”

Somewhat different look to Vanilla Ice's tune...

Ice Ice Baby as sung by the movies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxCKw3VbU54)

hint/tease... the Terminator, Jabba the Hut, Joe Pesci, Humphrey Bogart, and Tom Hanks all appear in this video. If that doesn't stir your inquisitiveness I don't know what will.

Kubiak: Posey is not all the way back yet but think he is getting close. He's a few weeks away from being totally confident in routes, plays

Kubiak: Sharpton is ready to go. He and Mays will split time at ILB. @HoustonTexans
John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL
Since start of 2010 season Texans are league-best 9-2 in September. They've lost a league-low 3 fumbles during that period.

In his last 10 games Andre Johnson has 90 catches for 1300 yards.

Antonio Smith: "I'm a lot smarter now." After his suspension.

Antonio Smith: "I used to be a caged animal. Now I'm a precision assassin."

Kubiak in rookie WR DeAndre Hopkins: "With the one game he got under his belt when he got his game plan this week it didn't scare him."

Kubiak on Titans: "They're built to be physical with some moves they made in the offseason."

Kubiak: "Nothing different on Ed (Reed). This is a physical decision for the long haul." In other words they're taking their time with Reed

From last night, coaches' review gave Cushing 6 extra tackles. http://ow.ly/oQPE5 #Texans

Here is mine and @paulkuharskynfl's preview of the #Texans home opener against the #Titans. http://ow.ly/oQPg1

"He walked in and got a game plan this Wednesday and it didn't scare the heck out of him like it did last week," Kubiak on Hopkins #Texans

"He's just really come into his own, lot of confidence," Kubiak on Shiloh Keo.

I know it has to be a typo, but I was like WTF?!?!?! That explains some things over the last 7 years.

I believe he was active for the Charger's game and... I'm pretty sure I saw him on the field a few times.

BUT.

He's not 100% in terms of his health but he's good enough to play. AND... he's still getting up to speed with the playbook and everything because he missed so much time in the off-season.

So he's a few weeks away from being the player they know he can be.

At least, that was the way I read it.

Let's hope he can block better than Jean when comes back. Jean had a couple of holding penalties called on him on run plays. I can't imagine Kubiak being impressed with that. I personally think Posey will take the majority of Jean's snaps when he's 100% healthwise. He looked so good late last season IMO.

LeStar has been in a dozen games or so. He might have been called for holding 1 other time that I can remember. I wouldn't think this was a big issue.

Everybody who played Monday night not named Andre Johnson made mistakes, many more than one. Some guys missed tackles, some guys took bad angles, some guys dropped balls, some threw the ball in the dirt or behind receivers....

LeStar is at the bottom of the WR depth chart right now. We shouldn't waste any of our time making mountains out of LeStar Jean's mistakes. I do agree that as Posey gets healthier, Jean's roll in this offense will diminish.

Kubiak (on playing Ed Reed): It's a combination of everyone looking for explosive movements. "We were very, very close yesterday." #Texans

Kubiak (on being 2-0 with red flags on Sun): The play coming out of the endzone we thought was a pretty easy challenge. #Texans
