Biggest pressure comeback gave I've seen them do yet:

- on national TV
- Kubiak pulls out the stops gets aggressive.
- Matt stands up to the pressure
- Defense gets it right second half.
- Big plays by your big players..

Agreed. He was hitting everyone and not throwing it to their knees. He went limp once but he had no where to go. He played like a legit QB in the NFL. Our offense looked good. Our defense looked like the real deal in the 2nd half. Hopefully they were just rusty in the 1st and won't play like that again against crappy teams.

I love his sunshining - especially when we come through like today. I think a few are often too quick to dismiss a game when we're down - but hey it is how some people cope with a potential loss. No one who has been on the forum for years takes these games lightly, so I try and keep out of how everyone processes during a game.

Good work to everyone who stayed up a lot later than I had to, and were rewarded with something quite brilliant!

it was a combined effort, 2012 going out of his way to make schaub look like a super hero. we caught a break on one of those TDs, got 6 instead of 3 on the penalty. the run game was moving the chains on every score, schaub made throws he had to make on 3rd & long, even extended some plays with his legs to give his recivers time, andre was beast all game getting open. tate looked hungry. defense stepped up after the 4th TD. cushing mad play of the game, took the pressure off the O. schaub led them downfield for the final FG..

we gotta stop coming out slow for these primetime games, some teams arent going to leave the window open.. antonio should make a difference, hopefully redd will be ready to go before the schedule gets tough..

o-line looked shaky.. i was also expecting jj to introduce fluker to the NFL, didnt happen..

Hmm. Now mind you, this is my eye test, I didn't hear his name except on one long play, which is good for a CB. Even on that play he had solid coverage but the WR made that catch regardless. Is he shutdown, nah. But definitely not as glaring as before.

More importantly that's 13 ypc.... not where we need it to be (14+) but it's promising. We need WRs, not skinny TEs.

That was an awesome catch.

When you watch it again, watch them in the huddle before that play.... Schaub was telling him, "You're going to get the ball.... I'm coming to you... be ready."

Another fantasy guy... Yeah, Schaub is the problem. Most of that was between the 20's and his crap throws and lack of speed are the reason we're having a problem with a team that should have been no problem. Yeah. Schaub sucks. Foster 18/57 3.2 ypc
Tate 9 /55 6.1 ypc

Yeah - that was getting a bit much. Do we have an ignore function? I've never had reason to use it, but during the heat of gameday, it does sometime get a little bit much.

You're not the only one. I texted my sister early in the game that he was the weakest link. He at the very least showed tonight why he deserves a roster spot.

How do you score 3 td's between the 20's?

you know what the run game did most of the heavy lifting between the 20s. schaub threw for TDs in the redzone, which is great. but lets not act like this is something that happens all the time..

this was a very unusual game all around..

brown was getting worked, tate looked better than foster, kubiak called plays he never calls, schaub was a beast in the redzone, errr from goalline....

San Diego drives after their last touchdown...

3 and out, 1 yard
3 and out, 1 yard
pick-6 on the first play
3 and out, 0 yards
3 and out, 8 yards

Just having someone as talented at football to learn from would be amazing, but to have such a humble guy, who I imagine is only too happy to help Hopkins along, well that's just the kicker.

I honestly don't know how AJ has the physical tools to continue dragging cornerbacks like he does - he still looks like he's 26.

Yah but he was playing against one of the best TE to ever play the game that has schooled just about every safety in the game multiple times. I do not expect a rookie to cover Antonio Gates, that's asking like a rookie CB to cover Megatron/Andre.

I agree, he should have never been put in that situation.

Welcome to the NFL rook, now go cover #85.

Just watching the highlights again - I love that as soon as the field goal goes in, they all mob Randy Bullock in celebration and celebrate as a team.

Wasn't the hardest field goal, but he showed some balls with that kick. Passed his first tester at this level, which was harder after the early miss.

i didnt like that wade put him in that situation. even as a learning experience you really dont want to put a rookie safety on an island against an all-pro tightend.

Hmmm... I missed that.

Tell the truth, I'd be more disappointed in him if he accepted the benching passively. No warrior wants to be pulled from the game when the team is trying to come back.

I remember some time ago he was benched a half for whatever reason and came back the 2nd half and ripped it up against the Raiders. Hopefully he has that kind of game week 2.

Anyway, Tate to me giving 120% on field tonight. Foster did not look game day ready conditioning wise or maybe he is still recovering from injury? Whatever the reason, Tate looked much better than Foster tonight.

I saw it. Ben Tate looked surprised that Kubiak wanted him out on the field 3 plays in a row. He pointed to himself as if to say, "I'm still on?" and gave a fist pump while running back to the huddle. Foster threw his hands in the air and whined about it. Pretty pathetic, as was his performance. Kubes don't care how much money you make. Kubes plays the best man.

1. Kubiak faked something! First time I've ever seen him do any kind of fake.

2. Keo was useful, if he becomes a solid player I'll have a buffet full of crow to eat.

3. Mother****ing Cush is back!

4. We missed Antonio Smith a lot on the interior, if we don't re-sign him I wouldn't trust Crick or whoever to be able to step up in his place.

5. Mccain looked like the weak link tonight, and J Jo wasn't exactly impressive.

6.Can't wait to get Reed out there and see what he can do.

Game was very entertaining.:texanbill:

Agree with all of this except your comment about Joseph. I thought he had a damn good game and that play he made tackling Royal or whoever that was and making sure he didn't come down in-bounds in the end zone was massive.

Same with RG3 in the first game; he looked crappy and rusty until he got a good half of full speed game behind him.

No. Kubiak is loyal to a fault, only runs on 3rd and long and doesn't ever fake anything... oh wait... SB or bust. Yeah, this is a new team. Maybe Kubiak went to Denny's and asked them to change the menu a little :D.

I am starting to think that Foster is starting to become a full fledged diva...

Heard on the radio that this summer he had the press waiting like 2 1/2 hours before he did his interview, then was very non responsive in answers. When asked about his up coming movie or his GQ cover shoot, he couldn't stop talking....

Have to start watching him closer...

it was a combined effort, 2012 going out of his way to make schaub look like a super hero. we caught a break on one of those TDs, got 6 instead of 3 on the penalty. the run game was moving the chains on every score, schaub made throws he had to make on 3rd & long, even extended some plays with his legs to give his recivers time, andre was beast all game getting open. tate looked hungry. defense stepped up after the 4th TD. cushing mad play of the game, took the pressure off the O. schaub led them downfield for the final FG..

we gotta stop coming out slow for these primetime games, some teams arent going to leave the window open.. antonio should make a difference, hopefully redd will be ready to go before the schedule gets tough..

o-line looked shaky.. i was also expecting jj to introduce fluker to the NFL, didnt happen..

I wrote it off, saying it was bad luck & stopped all together. Tonight I realized it's not about luck, it's about vibe.....

If the Texans are winning, these threads are great. If they are losing... debbie downers come out quick & they suck you into their crap.

I'd like to think these threads are an extension of the sideline, or an extension of the BullPen, or whatever stadium our team is playing in. We're an extension of the team (I think). We need to be rooting for them on every play, not dogging them after every mistake.

I know they can't hear us.... & I most likely won't change anyone's mind here. & no one may give a crap what I do... but I'm just going to continue to stay away from game day threads if they continue like this one. May even stay away from the board all-together because of some of the threads that are started during the game.

I'm not saying you can't criticize your team. I criticize them all the time & will continue to do so. But during he game? & then btch about them not playing for 4 qtrs when we can't support them for 2.... makes no sense to me.

they weren't all perfect passes but he definately should have made the catches especially since he snared a bad pass with one hand. He didn't look sharp and lacked focus. How do you score 3 td's between the 20's?

You can't take one game and compare it to a career history of choking in the red zone. I stand by my statement, Schaub's padded career stats happened between the 20's. Schaub brings little energy or inspiration to the team. As soon as his ass finds the grass a couple of times, the wind is out of his sails and he starts hanging his head.

Albert Einstein is credited with having said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" and it holds true. While Matt has been a decent quarterback, and worlds away better than David Carr (yeah, devotees defended that chump as vehemently too), the stats which matter (hint w-l ratio) just aren't there. And they likely never will be. When it matters most, Schaub drops the ball. The team can't succeed when 3/4 of all offensive red zone stands end in a field goal.

To get to the next level (Super Bowl or Bust), something different has to happen. While I'm grateful the Texans pulled out the W last night, it was miracle. Had Joseph not brought his man down oob, or Cushing not gotten that crucial pick 6 to turn the tide, this would be an entirely different conversation. That's 11 points provided by the defense and you can't reasonably expect that to happen every game.

106.7. If the Super Bowl or Bust motto were anything more than just that ~ a motto ~ that's the number the Texans would be playing with. The highest rated starting quarterback in all of the NFL finished his preseason with a rating of 103. Schaub finished with a mediocre 63. Case Keenum put up that first number, which lead the NFL in the position.

But, more than that, when Keenum was on the field it was clear who was in control. The boy is a General! Every play with him at the helm was sharp, and exact. He threw two of the prettiest passes, both right into Jean's breadbasket on a full tilt run, I've ever seen. Compare that to Schaub's throwing behind the receiver and causing them to break stride, slow down, and lose the addition yardage which could have been as a result.

Every quarterback makes mistakes. Hell, they're human too. But compare how they handle those mistakes. Schaub has the tendency to always blame the receiver, even when it was Schaub's lousy uncatchable pass which caused the disconnect. That causes dissonance and discord within the offense as well as unnecessary frustration. When Keenum has failed to hook up with his target, he's thus far owned it every time. Even when it wasn't his error which caused the dropped pass. That leads to an offense who WANTS to work for the quarterback.

Love Schaub all you want. Fine. Turn a blind eye to his actual play. Fine. I'm grateful for what he has done for the team and the level he's helped to bring them to, but I'm also realistic with my expectations of what he'll continue to give. Don't be disappointed when we come up with the same results as the last two years because that's what Scaub has in him. Right now the Texans have the highest rated QB in the entire league, and he's being iced. When he finally does get his chance, he'll have a lot of rust to shake off and will likely be a bit out of step. It's a travesty, and only proves that Super Bowl thing is naught more than a motto. History doesn't lie, and if you choose to not learn from the past, you're doomed to repeat it.

Peace.

Seeing the faults doesn't make you less of a fan. Sure, the "Cut Schaub, play Case!" stuff is over-the-top, but the "Duane Brown is getting OWNED" was on point.

We might be telling certain players to "shake it off", but I doubt the coaches were all that touchy-feely with Lestar Jean last night.

On the plus side - I wondered if Kubiak had gotten kidnapped last night. Fake Punt? Throwing downfield with little time on the clock before a half? Quick huddle and getting to the line quickly? And Schaub? Scrambling for his life (as usual), but looking and throwing downfield on target under pressure? Wow. The frozen rope he threw on 3rd and 18 was a thing of beauty. The long pass to Hopkins where he picked it off the turf gave me hope as well.

How is that over the top exactly? Fine to see the weakness anywhere but the quarterback. If a season of receivers having to make shoestring catches and digging balls out of the dirt to scrape a win gives you hope, what does passes made spot on under the same pressure give you? Disarhea apparently?

I know your memory is crap but if you went back to that play Schaub was under pressure and scrambling, oh and the ball got there and was caught. Over the top is calling to bench your starting qb for a 3rd stringer when your first stringer posts the numbers he did

I don't post during games anymore. I used to but I found that I couldn't really concentrate on the game if I was checking on what was being said on TT.

But I LOVE to read back through the thread after-the-fact. A lot of the time, the posts reflect the kaleidoscope of feelings I'm going through as a fan during the game. Some of them are almost alien to me, though.

During last night's game, I was disgusted and disappointed for 2.25 quarters but I was trying to keep my chin up. I felt like our offense was actually playing OK and our defense was totally crap. You can't win that way. Rivers was looking like Rodgers. No matter how good your offense is playing, if the defense doesn't make stops, you can't claw yourself back into contention you can only hope to keep pace.

Duane Brown was just getting schooled through the first part of the game.

But then the defense showed up and started getting it done. Schaub and Andre and Tate and OD were just BEASTS.

Awesome, awesome game.

This team showed tons of heart. The hard part about showing tons of heart is that you've got to get behind to do it. Hopefully, we build off the good parts and eradicate the bad parts going forward.

Peace.

This may be the best communicated, worst post In the history of texanstalk.

You lay out the arguments very clearly... Unfortunately, they are ludicrous!

1. Schaub never blames or calls out his wrs.

2. No football coach or gm in the nfl would start keenum over schaub- are you wiser than all of them.

3. Schaubs win -loss record, which you assert is a key stat, is 20 - 5 in the regular season since 2011, and not bad before that. Oh, and 1 -1 in the playoffs isn't exactly an irreversible trend.

4. Do you realize that almost every significant historical event had a series of failures proceeding it. George Washington wasn't replaced as commander of continental army because he lost some important battles during the revolution... "Because history repeats itself".

Come on!

Schaub looked better than he has since the first half of 2011... And, he appears healthier and less brittle than I have seen him, ever. I wonder what diet and training things he changed this off-season. He was almost....... Cough.... Nimble!

I love all the new people who registered in August that are here to drop some knowledge on texanstalk.

I didn't want to be the first to bring it up, but new members rampaging through the gameday thread with devisive opinions was probably the worst part about it all - it just screams troll to me...

Everyone's got their different ways of expressing their rage after a crappy play or adulation after a great play - however I'm a lot happier to cut someone some slack if they've been contributing here for a while, and it doesn't appear they're just here to cause an argument.

FWIW - I felt it was acutally quite quiet on here at gametime yesterday. Perhaps it's memory issues, but I felt like we always had an absurd number of gameday threaders for the road games.

No. Kubiak is loyal to a fault, only runs on 3rd and long and doesn't ever fake anything... oh wait... SB or bust. Yeah, this is a new team. Maybe Kubiak went to Denny's and asked them to change the menu a little :D.

Look closer, that was no Denny's menu

Gary got a new one. That was some Cracker Barrel right there.

My heart rate is still returning to normal after that fake punt - I expected it so little, I presumed we'd fumbled it and forwarded the ball, lol.

You can't take one game and compare it to a career history of choking in the red zone. I stand by my statement, Schaub's padded career stats happened between the 20's. Schaub brings little energy or inspiration to the team.

Who gives a sht?

That's why we've got Foster & Tate.

But we are not on the freaking sidelines. We are on couches, recliners, bar stools, etc. Nothing we say or do during the games will have any impact on the way the Texans play. So to get your panties in a twist because people have the audacity to complain about the team is ridiculous.
.

Again.... I complain about the Texans all the time. But if I'm watching the game, whether I'm in the stands, on the sideline, in a sports bar, or with my good friends on TT.com I don't need that guy that complains about everything.

QBs throw interceptions, RBs get stopped for losses, teams give up big TD plays.... doesn't matter if it's the New England Patriots, the Andrew Lucks, or the SF 49ers. It's part of the game.

I want to see what they do next. Doesn't make sense to gripe about the latest mistake.

No room for negativity? That's the definition of a "homer". Seeing the faults doesn't make you less of a fan. Sure, the "Cut Schaub, play Case!" stuff is over-the-top, but the "Duane Brown is getting OWNED" was on point.

I don't have the problem with the "Duane Brown is getting owned." comments. That's an observation. There will be people who can't watch the game & will follow the GD thread, that's good information for them.

A guy I know (I won't call him a friend after what he did last night) called me at 10:53pm last night to say, "It's going to be a long year, D sucks... Typical Texans, blah, blah, blah."

& he says he's a Texans' fan. He's only a fan when they're winning. I called him at 12:45 am & he couldn't be happy. He kept complaining about how they got behind....

It just doesn't make any sense. There was a lot of that in this thread. Maybe y'all enjoy that, to sulk in your misery with the other doom & gloomers. & that's fine. I've stayed out of game day threads for a long time. I'll be at Reliant for most home games anyway, won't be on the board.. so it's not going to bother me too much.

Whatever makes y'all happy.

How is that over the top exactly? Fine to see the weakness anywhere but the quarterback. If a season of receivers having to make shoestring catches and digging balls out of the dirt to scrape a win gives you hope, what does passes made spot on under the same pressure give you? Disarhea apparently?

i give up

I feel you. I was the same way about David Carr. But I never brought that up in a game day thread, never talked about it during the game.... sure at halftime I'd go out to the mezzanine, smoke a cigarette, get another beer & talk about how the QB is holding us back.... but I always kept it positive (tried to anyway), "Yeah but he's got the ability, he's got an arm, he's fairly accurate, he just needs to get his head out his azz.... maybe in the 2nd half."

Complain about the QB. Complain about the coach. Complain about the #4 receiver & the safety we're starting because of injury... I'm asking you to not do it in the game day thread. As a favor to me. Start your own thread. Call it the "Let's talk sht about Schaub during the game" thread.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of people participate.

Another foster note how may drops did he have 3 or so?

they weren't all perfect passes but he definately should have made the catches especially since he snared a bad pass with one hand. He didn't look sharp and lacked focus. I like that Tate is getting more playing time. My guess is he's gone after this season and he knows he's auditioning for his next team. I just hope he can stay healthy.

I only counted two drops and one that was really behind him. That third one I chalk up to the jailbreak blitz the Chargers ran at Schaub. He did well to get the ball out of his hand before getting pummeled. Hard to criticize that throw for not being spot on.

I've noticed that Foster can catch anything he gets his mitts on that at his waist level and above or if he dives for it. I've seen him make some impossible looking catches on high balls.

But if ball is down low and behind him, then it's iffy that he'll come up with the catch. Again, maybe that's just me.

This game really worried me. Pass protection were horrible. Brown got steamed roll all night by an over the hill Freeney. Our D created little pass rush against a weak and inexperienced SD Oline.

The only positive was Schaub standing tall and throwing downfield on a couple of 3rd and long. Maybe the coaches and himself are emphasizing that weakness and have done something in the off-season?

Lets not forget that Schaub stepped up to avoid pressure, rolled out to extend plays and make throws down the field. Thats a positive as well as the D getting in gear and only allowing 10 yards in the Chargers last 5 drives.

Yep the D in the first half looked sluggish, tired and complacent. 2nd half D was great.

As far as d brown goes, he has been a top LT for a few seasons now, i'm not worried about him, he will be fine. On a good note the right side of the line looked competent.

That's great. We have things to improve on.

We don't want to be playing our best football right now.

As long as we feel like we've got the people in place to get it fixed. Special teams might not get any better over the course of the season, but I think we've got a good set of coaches to help the offense & the defense improve over the course of the season.

It isn't being negative or pessimistic that raises the ire of the mb. There are plenty of old timers here who are critical/pessimistic. How do we know the Chargers won't be the best team in the league this year? They were 7-9 last year, a 4 game swing (which isn't unheard of) would make them 11-5 this year. They're talented, we saw that. They're well coached, or at least appear to be. They can score in bunches... so let's not get all high & mighty with that "to the Chargers" talk.

If you're going to support your team, support them when they're up, support them when they're down. Getting mad in the middle of the game isn't going to help anyone.

Whatever mistake you saw will most likely be addressed the day after the game. It's just me personally, but if I'm going to spend my time, watching a Texans game, with my TT friends I don't need someone telling me how bad my team sucks. I'd like for someone to tell me how we can get ourselves out of the hole we dug.... or at least that we can.

We've got a whole week to btch, moan, & complain.... and there's a good chance I'll be right there with you btching, & moaning, & complaining. But during a game?

That was one Trent Dilfer.

Poster boy for game manager type QBs. Won Super Bowl XXXV as QB for the Ravens. After replacing starter Tony Banks mid-season, Dilfer went 7-1 the rest of the way and 3-0 in the playoffs thereby getting his team to the Super Bowl.

He was not re-signed by the Ravens in the off-season.

Decent QB. Could lead a good team but not carry a mediocre team.

Has been outspoken - for at least a couple of years - about the Texans' inability to (1) beat elite QBs and (2) show the gumption (my word, not his) to perform well on "big stages". What truly pisses me off about him is he's been right.

There's a very very large difference with registering, lurking, seeing what everything is about and then posting opinions, rather than just jumping up and trying to post the most contrarian opinions they can and then trying to attempt verbal jiu-jitsu when they are called out.

There's also a real big difference between discussing openly what the Texans aren't doing well, or which players are not playing well, and just existing to bash the team 24/7 with new threads everytime you come up with another reason why you think Schaub/Kubiak/whomever/whatever are <insert derogatory adjective here> and need to be cut/fired.

You left off the next step which I find to be the most annoying which is to then turn around to anyone who dares contradict the point and call them homers, apologists or lacking in football knowledge.

For all the new members. If you are catching static it is not about the message (opinions around here run the full gamut), it is the manner in which the message is delivered.
