TEXANS' SECONDARY STRUGGLES AGAINST VIKINGS IN FIRST PRESEASON GAME
By John Harris/The Sideline View (http://www.thesidelineview.com/tsvtv/texans-secondary-struggles-against-vikings-first-preseason-game)

After last year's precipitous fall over the last third of the season, I was expecting the secondary play to be much improved in 2013. Throughout training camp that had been the case, but it was not a great night for the first unit in Friday night's performance. Sure, Jonathan Joseph didn't play and Ed Reed hasn't been on the field with the team, yet; however, the first unit struggled a bit, particularly in its dime package, which I have noted in today's video.watch the video here: http://www.thesidelineview.com/tsvtv/texans-secondary-struggles-against-vikings-first-preseason-game

SPOTTING TEXANS' OFFENSIVE LINE ISSUES IN THE PRESEASON MATCHUP AGAINST THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Lance Zierlein/The Sideline View (http://www.thesidelineview.com/tsvtv/spotting-texans-offensive-line-issues-preseason-matchup-against-minnesota-vikings)
Early in Friday night's Texans matchup with the Vikings, Lance Zierlein saw a few things in the OL that were concerning. He decided to take a look at a second-quarter run play, what's called a gap play, in which the G-C-G trio systematically broke down, shutting down the play before it even had a chance to develop.watch the video here: http://www.thesidelineview.com/tsvtv/spotting-texans-offensive-line-issues-preseason-matchup-against-minnesota-vikings

The guy's a maroon.

With the first teams in, we picked off the Vikings & forced a three & out. They couldn't find a place to throw the ball. Ponder was 1 for 2 with an interception.

"Well with the way their secondary fell apart at the end of last year, I expected the scrubs they just elevated from their practice squad & whatever riff raff they picked up to shut down the Vikings offense."

Poppy ****.

What the hell is this guy talking about, Roc is not a starter, and he is the one who got burned most of the time. Dude needs to work on his ability to read numbers on jerseys, and to know read the texans actual starting line-up, cause that wasnt even close !!!

At what point in the video does Harris say Roc is a starter?

Thanks for posting. Guy may have messed up a few comments, but it was a good video overall. I like the effort and its cool to see more and more texans coverage.

He never said it, in fact he mentioned Carmichael wouldn't normally be on the field. I just don't like the way he started with:

After last year's precipitous fall over the last third of the season, I was expecting the secondary play to be much improved in 2013.

What we saw that game has very little to do with whether our secondary play will be, or will not be much improved.

It was however good analysis, not very different from when some guys here say, "Player X should have done this, player Z should have done that" even though he probably doesn't know their assignments any better than we do.

But his "situational" assumptions seem to be right on the money. That second pass, where he talks about Muhommed, Keo, & Swearinger being too concerned about the short routes was spot on. 3rd & 10 you'd think they would deepen their zones, keep the guys in front of them, but most importantly make the throw to the deeper routes more difficult.

If they'd have dropped back 3 or 4 yards, camped out on the marker, the QB would have had to make a more difficult throw, getting the ball to peak over there heads, but still drop to the receiver 3 yards behind them.

Secondly they take away passing lanes forcing the QB to wait for the receiver to enter open zones. With Muhommed taking as wide a drop as he did & Keo being so shallow, as soon as the receiver broke to the inside, the QB had a huge window to throw into.
