Police: Colts safety Joe Lefeged arrested after fleeing from traffic stop, found with unregistered pistol

Indianapolis Colts player Joe Lefeged was arrested for multiple gun-related offenses overnight in Washington, D.C., after fleeing police during a traffic stop, a police spokesman confirmed this morning.

Lefeged, 25, was in a vehicle with another man when police attempted to stop the vehicle. After an unspecified chase the two were arrested, said Officer Araz Alali, a D.C. police spokesman.

A handgun was found in the vehicle, Alali said.

DC and NYC are not the places to have handguns. Ask Plaxico and Gilbert Arenas.

And "fleeing police during a traffic stop" is only legal in Los Angeles and only if they can cover it on the local news.

Worth reading the entire piece, but here's an excerpt.

In September 2011, former Army Specialist Adam Meckler was arrested at the VFW in the District because he happened to have a few long-forgotten rounds of ordinary ammunition in his bag. The veteran of both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq was jailed and later accepted a plea deal, which he now regrets.

In May, a new law was enacted in the District make the ammunitions restrictions more reasonable, but it did not go far enough.

According to the National Rifle Association, there are only two states, Illinois and Massachusetts, and three major cities, D.C., New York City and Chicago, that have general prohibitions on possession of ammunition without a license, even if the accused doesn’t have a gun.

Wow, with all those restrictions on guns and ammo, DC must be one of the safest cities in the country! Very low gun crime rate, amiright?
