So, it's after the draft but before OTA's.  Sigh.  How can Texans fans occupy themselves?

I'm going to suggest to you something kinda goofy but cool at the same time....

Send the Texans players postcards. In Reliant, between the players lounge and the cafeteria, the players have individual mailbox slots.  Why not send the players some encouragement, and show them that Texans fans appreciate what they are doing?  Postcards are perfect because 1. they don't take much time for you to write; 2. the player doesn't have to spend any time opening it.

If you can write only a few, here's some good candidates:

1. Rookies and new Free Agents. Nothing like giving them a big Texans welcome.

2. Injured Players.  If your passion is playing football, there must be nothing worse than watching others play football while you are doing the same boring rehab.  Why not write them some nice words of encouragement?

3. Your Favorite Returning Players.  For obvious reasons.

4. Whoever else you feel like, maybe especially those player you think don't get much mail and have the empty mailbox slot.

I know that they receive these postcards.  Last year, in my Chronicle blog I suggested people send postcards to the players, and then I sent them to all the rookies and a bunch of the other players.  When I ended up having lunch with offensive lineman Eric Winston at the Texans team luncheon, he said he remembered receiving my postcard, and that the various rookies visited with each other and asked if they got one.

Here's the address:

 Players Name
The Houston Texans
Two Reliant Park
Houston, Texas 77054

I have to admit to being a person who is both cynical and terribly earnest, which I know is a strange combination.  I believe that the power of individuals, coming together, can make a difference.  I always get frustrated when I read preseason stuff that I can't do more as a fan to help them, but I figure sending off some post cards and encouraging others to do the same can't hurt.

Many Texans players have their own myspace pages. i have been adding them as friends and communicating with them that way. but i will grab a handfull of postcards and get going on that too!
